Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-20-ALLSRCE-65607

No it won’t, they released guidance saying getting it won’t effect your medical clearance other than getting 2 days on EA to make sure you don’t keel over, but the FAA isn’t requiring anyone to get it.
you are correct lol I misread!

On 12/6 I got "You were found suitable at this stage in your hiring action. Your HR specialist will be in contact with you regarding the next steps in the process." And that's it... A snag if I do say so myself.
Lol.

Waiting a little over a week for someone to email you is not a ‘snag’

Read through the MMPI thread, or threads from previous bids. This is a process that can take years.

EQIP is in as well as fingerprints and credit release, drug test done today, and medical was done last week. Just waiting to get the MMPI done!

Got this from my security person today:
"Due to time constraints on all security paperwork being handed in, I have rejected your EQIP back to you to recertify and re-release to us."

Essentially, I have to go back through my EQIP and resubmit the y/n questions.

Just got done with my medical. Everything was great except during my ekg my heart rate was a little fast because I was nervous ? my AME was awesome though and waited for a while for it to drop. Hopefully it’s okay. He said the reading they got should be fine for them though and he noted that I was just nervous and my readings are usually fine lol ??

We’re you notified of security clearance?
Already submitted 11/25. Security POC told me no other action is needed of me and if they find a reason to question my SF-86 they would call and do an interview like some other people in this bid experienced. So from what I gathered, if you don't hear anything then that's usually good news. You'll typically find out from your HR if security is good after you get your medical clearance.

Oh man, this only has me more concerned for my medical tomorrow. Glad you got an examiner who was friendly, I hope mine is. I am mostly worried about my blood pressure being too high for the standards.

I was worried about my bp too but mine ended up being good. Don’t be worried! If you’re nervous, your ekg is going to show it like mine ?? try your best to relax! It was hard to breathe and relax with my mask on so he had me take it off lol it’s not bad at all! If it wasn’t for the 10 minutes that we spent having me calm down and lay there to get my heart rate down for my ekg, I would’ve been out in 20 minutes instead of 30 lol

Thanks for the encouragement. I've always been a bit of a fatbody, but I've never had any health issues associated with that other than the occasional doctor telling me "hey, your BP is elevated because you're overweight." So of course as a typical guy, I went on about my business and didnt change much about my life.

If this is what stops me from going any further in this process, I'll be sure to let you guys know because I will definitely have to vent somewhere lol.

My controller friend told me your bp has to be pretty high to require a special issuance. I’m not sure how high is “pretty high” though. Maybe someone will weigh in on that. Going through the medical clearance has been an eye opener for me and how much I really need to get back to working out and making sure my health stays in tip top shape if I wanna keep my medical for a full career lol if this career isn’t motivation to get back in shape and make my health my #1 priority, idk what is

True enough ninerfour. I have dove back into lifting and being active a few months ago and my only regret is not doing it sooner.

Also, a very helpful user posted a few pages ago a link to some specific "standards" for ATCs, and it stated that your BP cannot be over 140/90 for anyone under 30. Of course, that's the letter of the law, so to speak. The color of the law may be a very different story. I quoted the post as well if you want to try and find it, it was just about a week ago if that.

I found an FAA PDF saying the BP requirements for ATC were 155/95 saying both pressures had to be above the limits to be disqualifying. So if you had something like 134/96, then according to that document you'd pass and only be flagged if you have a history of any cardiovascular issues. Mine was 125/92 at the physical but the AME said he didn't see anything that would hold me back but at the end of the day the flight surgeon makes the decision. Im sure you two will be fine as well as myself provided my medical history is pretty bare. The only time I've heard of people getting held back for HBP are the ones with extremely high BP or elevated if they have a history of cardiovascular issues. However its usually not disqualifying, they just make you see a doctor. If your BP is just elevated such as my second number and is your only medical issue, then from what my controller friends says, you will get medically cleared right away. Good luck to you guys!
EDIT: I found the requirements on OPM. 140/90 for 20-29

Uh oh white coat syndrome!! I’m afraid of this with my blood pressure ?? Hopefully they give me 5-10 min to let me calm down.
