Government Shutdown

TSP is separate from the government and is still running as usual. This also means that if you need it, you can get a TSP loan during this crap

I didn't know this so that's reassuring. I don't think I'll have to go this route, but if I do it would have been nice to take a loan for the $30K I lost from Oct-Dec  I really don't want to take any more out of there.

My household can probably make it a few months without pay but I too shuddered when he said months or years. Sure, it's rhetoric, but still scary.

This has the potential to really screw up the AZO consolidation too.

For those looking for a chuckle during this mess, I saw this on ATCMEMES.
My friend had a minor operational error this morning working traffic. Nobody was in danger or anything, but he was asked to report it. Now, I'm no legal expert, but I'm pretty sure "you get what you pay for" probably wasn't the best thing he could have put on his ATSAP form.

It was shutdown when they would have processed the payroll, so the payroll people basically put in an educated guess. It will all be fixed when the government open, you're not gonna get a home phone number for a payroll person if that's what you're looking for.
Yeah not a home number.. I was just told that someone got an email with info for people in this situation. I figured nobody was working in that department.

10500 controllers, 12 months, and about 35 possible birthdays. There have to be around 25 people turning 56 this month and another 25 next month. If no one's at OPM, who do they file for retirement to? Can they? How is this being handled?

i found work for everybody...200k+/60 paid days off/income 90% tax free with usa..notice all the civy controllers that work there and state of the art equipment...or you can all stay with the Failed Aviation Administration...i figured you guys/gals would find this very interesting...they dont have gvt shutdowns in Dubai..this just posted, the guy that did the vid flys around the world in first class rating airlines/airports.....

We have a trainee who did 8 years there in approach. Said it was awesome until about 2-3 years ago with a management change and crackdown and now wouldn’t recommend it to anyone

As is usually the case.. I would sell my soul for half of that technology...

The DOT has directed the FAA that starting tomorrow (January 7th), they are required to report all absences due to illness to DOT at core 30 towers, large TRACONs, and Enroute facilities by noon each and every day.

Uh ohhhhh

For what purpose? They’re in for a load of trouble if they try and take punitive measures for sick leave usage with no evidence of abuse

Can someone explain what this means?
Does it mean good to show the "furlough flu"? Or to punish and possibly fire people?

I would assume they're watching for people to follow the TSA bubbas. What their intentions are with call outs, no clue but I'd expect the worst.

I love that when they're interviewing the training guy he says, "Years ago in Air Traffic Control we had to use paper strips and hand write them"
Meanwhile here when we coordinate a runway change we get two strips printed out telling us our runways configuration is changed... I try not to think about the mountains of paper/plastic that is wasted on these completely extraneous strips

When we get hazardous weather it prints out seven
