NATCA asleep at the wheel again….

yeah i mean i think 10 years at the very best.

here's another thing, a ton of people are eligible in the next 5-10 years.

Let's say they moved insanely fast and it was ready in 5 years. You think people aren't bailing? They'd have to offer massive incentives and people may still retire early. I'm eligible in 9 years. Of course, I'd move and go along with it for the remaining 4 years; but then I'd retire the day i was eligible.

There is a major staffing problem and the FAA needs to try and retain as many eligible for retirement in the next 10 years. Forced moves will drive them away for sure.
Exactly

Their airspace is adjacent. It would basically be a California center at that point. They are going to be building new centers, no one said it had to be or would be located where they are located now.

The agency doesn’t care about lifestyle, you should know better by now
Adjacent airspace doesn’t really make it any easier imo. Also ZOA has a zillion miles of oceanic which the people in charge probably doesn’t even understand about.

As I said a center is just like a brick building. Give each one 100M and they will be nice again

It’s not like the people that work there won’t keep working the same airspace they work now. Just in a new spot, it’s more than just 100 million (which I think is a low cost estimate) becuase you also have to maintain them. It costs more to maintain 22 buildings than 12.

On other NATCA news, a buddy at another facility just messaged me this, "I was told today that there's nothing that can be done about the district management steamrolling us on the NTI, our union is officially useless."

Most of NATCA : The NTI is bullshit
Nick Daniels : You'll train as much as possible and like it!

Counting the days until I jump for joy and submit that cancellation of dues form...

They have never cared about staffing before, and they don’t really care now. Certainly not enough to change their plans to consolidate and save a bunch of money because a few hundred or even a thousand controllers might retire sooner than later. No one is irreplaceable in their eyes. That’s better for them if you do retire. Why? New hires are cheaper.

At the end of the day it’s going happen, the agencies lack of action to timely preserve and modernize existing facilities has made it a certainty. Most of the day to day money goes to operating legacy tech.

You want a raise, and you deserve one. Won’t be happening unless theres ways to free up money. Center consolation will save money in the long run, and that money saved could be used for pay if natca had a brain.

Only the government can claim building bigger brick buildings is cheaper than maintaining the brick buildings they already own. I think if they want to consolidate they should put the centers and the adjacent large tracons and small tracons all together. Then people who actually work stratified with each other can all work together.

nah, i think there's enough of a spotlight on the staffing that they actually need to tread lightly if they even were heavily motivated to consolidate in the next 5-10 yrs.

It's just my personal opinion of course. I think there's been enough national attention on the staffing solely to where no one in management wants to be responsible for the shit show that were to ensue if staffing were to get worse from their decisions.
