New York Times names Controller involved with AUS FedEx/Southwest Incident

So is the controller going to be fired, banished/exiled/shamed to the least busiest facility in the NAS in purgatory, or just become a staff support specialist?
I mean truthfully this would've shaken me up. It wasn't intentional terrorism or negligence doesn't deserve to be terminated by any means. We are all one clearance away

I can't even get admin leave around a holiday but this dude almost lands a 76 on a southwest and gets months of free admin time. Wtf.

Zero chance he doesn't get promoted into management. Fall up.
Just get a Covid shot the day before

I don't know if this was a joke as in, multiple TEB people have screwed up or not.

But for those that don't know the story, back in 2009 a TEB controller was on his phone doing non work related things and was found partially responsible for the deaths of 9 people when a helicopter and PA-32 collided in the Hudson River Corridor. This article goes into some detail. It names and shames, he's supposedly working at PHF.

Nope wasn’t a joke. I thought you were referencing the LJ crash a few years ago and was trying to figure out what ATC had to do with that one.

For anyone who doesn’t know, anyone with a .gov e-mail can get a free Washington Post digital account so you never have to deal with paywalls.

Have at it if you are so inclined...

Oh man, there’s some gems in there. On at least two occasions he’s unable to describe how to apply separation rules. He can’t recall the local cutoff points for arrival versus departures, and he can’t describe how he actually determines if 2 increasing to 3 exists. Not a good look.

Weird question. Are we required to actually answer?

In the police force they trained us just say I shot to prevent an aggressive action in accordance with my training.

Couldn't you just repeat I did my best to apply separation rules in accordance with my training?

Like some of these quotes look really bad...and they are

Police are generally held to the lowest standard of accountability.

Maybe if he had a NATCA Rep engaged to help him the Rep would have coached him up or stopped him from saying stupid shit in the interview but this guy was allegedly a non-member so maybe they left him out to dry?

I mean the police have a strong union and obviously court coaching.

But do we have a legal obligation to answer have you ever had an alcohol before? How were you feeling?
There isn't anyone there to say it's irrelevant or question why.

This whole 'safety only' investigation is now in public domain. Imagine if something had happened, he'd be sued into oblivion with no doubt.

Which circles me back around-do we have any sort of coaching or contractual obligations in these questions?

No he wouldn’t. Only the government could be.
Wouldn't he be personally liable for any negligent reason

IE-
I was tired as it was my 52nd week of 6 day work weeks
-he shouldve taken sick leave

I know there is a large shield for us but the whole interview was weird
