Unless you have a kickass gaming rig and want to max out or work on video/photo editing, there’s not really much point when 144hz is good enough.
I mean I can hit 240 in some of the games I don't actually suck at, seems like they aren't too nuts, but not sure if I should get 1080 240hz or 144hz 4k

We should have a minecraft server

I have a 24" 4k monitor that I run in high-scaled 1080p mode, just like the "retina" screens on Apple's products. Everything is super clear and sharp. Gaming isn't great at 4k (though I did get myself a Radeon VII earlier this year so now it's a little better), so usually I have to run in regular 1080p for that.

Anyone else do video editing? Took a whole bunch of videos recently that were 4K, and now I'm realizing that my GTX680 and isn't gonna cut it. Actually thinking about a laptop for the job so I can work on it on breaks and when I'm on the go. Do I need a 2080, or will a 2060/2070 cut it?

GPU isn’t that important when it comes to editing as a CPU, I’d look into a higher end Ryzen

ABs right. Need a good multithread cpu for editing and ryzen are the better for that right now

Jayztwosense did a good one on that. Threadripper crushed video editing in under 2 minutes and the i9 10900k took 10 minutes. 16 threads vs 64 though. 🤣 amd has let me down too many times in the past to ever buy them again.

Maybe this is a different type of video, but do any of you record yourself? I wanted to record some of my Warzone games for my little cousin but I feel like Warzone doesn't play well with Nvidia's overlay. Or at least it didn't about 2 months back.

Nvidia overlay is just bad, I recommend OBS for recording

I've always wanted to just build a threadripper but I've never had the need to use even the lowest end one. If I streamed or edited I 100% would get the low end threadripper

Been binging Red Dead 2, 165hz 3080 FE, i7-10700k... it’s addictive
Any reason why a TV wouldn't be ideal vs a gaming monitor?

I was at Costco the other day and they're selling an 82" Samsung for like $1400, 4k 240hz. Is that pretty much the only specs you need for gaming, resolution and refresh rate? Seems like I could put that big bitch in myan cave and hook my PC up to it when I finish it.

If you get a card that can support it without tearing, I can't think of an issue off the top of my head but you need a damn good card... aka 3080. I went with a 75' tbh XD

The biggest reasons I've seen are input lag is usually higher, but that's not a big deal to anyone who isn't a pro/especially single player games. And then you also have the fact that you have to be far away to see everything and you'd need somewhere for a mouse & keyboard

Color depth is the other biggie, "full color" is 32 bits per pixel (eight bits each for RGBA channels). When you get up to 4k 240Hz that's a LOT of data going through the cable/being decoded by the TV, so often they'll fudge it because either the cable itself or the TV doesn't have the bandwidth. I'm not entirely sure of the details but it can lead to colors not looking quite right.

Also what AB said, 82" is huge...
