^this right here basically sums up how useless the union, at the very least on the national level, truly is. If circumstances for current employees truly are as good as they possibly could be, as NATCA claims, I’d really hate to see what worse conditions would look like. Morale is probably at or near an all time low with the majority of controllers trapped at facilities they don’t want to be at, with no prospects of getting out because of NCEPT, all while being forced to work 6 day weeks and 10 hour days. Our compensation, while still good, is quickly being diluted with inflation and no reasonable adjustments. But if you knock up some chick, you get 3 months off so it’s not worth even going to the table to try and improve things. All while the reps enjoy their luxurious dues-funded conferences (vacations) and sit in an office on the clock while their fellow controllers are down the shitter. It’s a fucking scam.Because of this fucking special benefit (federal law) NATCA says it could not negotiate to improve the slate book as they would have had to give something away in compensation lol.

Are you a rep or on the board at your facility?^this right here basically sums up how useless the union, at the very least on the national level, truly is. Of course he isn't. He's one of the ones that just bitches but doesn't actually try to change anything. Are you a rep or on the board at your facility?
You shouldn’t have to be a rep or on a board for your voice to be heard and your opinion to matter, but all too often, that seems to be the case for members. The union-sanctioned year+ training hold that was almost unanimously questioned/criticized by BUE’s and has only further contributed to staffing shortages is an example. Every trainee and nearly every CPC at my facility has complained about the intermittent, completely pointless, training holds over time only to be dismissed by leadership. People ask why, for months, a trainee could sit next to a CPC and monitor but could not train and all they got was “it’s for safety” and “there’s nothing we can do.”Of course he isn't. This is a perspective failure. Take off the MEgoggles. Do you know how many controllers are actually trying to move? It’s a large number and it’s a priority for the union but it’s miles and miles and miles away from a majority.^this right here basically sums up how useless the union, at the very least on the national level, truly is. I agree that it isn’t required to have your voice heard. But if you expect your complaint and your complaint alone to be addressed, while simultaneously are unwilling to learn what is involved in negotiations on the local and national levels or accept what you are told then you are not acting in good faith. The same as a representative not spending the time to explain it to you, that is also their responsibility, I can certainly understand that frustration. You shouldn’t have to be a rep or on a board for your voice to be heard and your opinion to matter, but all too often, that seems to be the case for members. While there is truth here a lot of E-Boards are either good and don’t need replaced or are bad and have the majority of votes anyway and people can’t get a position if they wanted too. Half my facilities have been that way and any dissenting opinions member certainly won’t getting a spot of any sort there.I agree that it isn’t required to have your voice heard. But why would you have a differing opinion on a local or national level. Listen you thank Daddy NATCA and be gratefulYa I asked for a lump sum payment or a move and it got slapped down. Honestly it wasn't unreasonable. The word from above was "try to get him something that can be done in the building"....like what you gonna give me that primo handicapped parking spot up front? My own personal red bull water fountain? There's not much that makes up for years of training delays beside money or getting me where I want to be in my career. Sorry not sorry.
