Working on my taxes.... anyone know what box 14 on our w2 represents? Of the possible categories it fits in, only thing that makes sense is NATCA dues but they don't add up. My box 14 code is 6.
Box 14 is not defined by the IRS, each payroll provider is allowed to put whatever they want in there. I found this Yahoo Answers post that references a now-dead discussion board that claims 6 is "Health benefits, pretax" (i.e. your FEHB and Benefeds premiums that, due to a fed employee fringe benefit, are not taxable income). This seems correct for me, comparing my W-2 with the running totals listed on the 2020-26 LES (pay period ending 12/19/2020).

I don't think you need to do anything with that number because the total taxable income in Box 1 accounts for it already. Perhaps if you live in a state where those premiums are not deductible you would need to add the number to Box 1 to figure your state's taxable income.

I BELIEVE it’s your health insurance and union payments. You can find the answer if you log into employee express and download your W2 towards the latter pages. There’s a key about box 14 in there

Turns out you are mostly correct, this is the amount I paid in health and dental insurance. No union dues though. Thanks for the help!
