Slate Book Extended Until 2029

I didn't realize the N in NATCA was Nick.
Nick's Air Traffic Controller Association

santa is on the eastern region call this morning. some things that have been said in this thread were confirmed

no vote by the NEB on the extension. text by nick at 545am to Mick to support extension. Mick did not support it. Nick then said he would not bring it to a vote.

this is a president that went rogue. he lied in his campaign to get votes, to win. he went against his NEB, against the membership's voice. he feels the poll results were skewed and things have changed since we were polled. he claims he has 1000s of texts and emails that support his decision. absent a national poll asking our opinion right now we won't have the data. he knows that if he put out a nation poll it would confirm that we did not want to extend. he hides under the guise that as president he can just do whatever he wants per the constitution justifying his decision as "the results were in the election".

that being said, we aren't going to be able to impeach him. he isn't going to step down. nick has the neb locked down and they aren't going to fracture. I dont think leaving the union right now is the right decision. you are going to lose your voice, your vote. we are going to need that for this convention. I am certain that there will be a proposed amendment to the constitution that will stop these unilateral decisions. if that fails and we still have not seen wins then it will be time to send a message
I agree for the most part, however I am in the opposite camp. It makes more sense to me to bail on Natca next month and then let them earn our trust back.

Most of the people I’ve talked to who went to convention have said it’s a sham and they all get coached how to vote anyway. Think back to the outrage over the last convention, there was an amendment to require a vote for an extension and it failed.

Prove to us that it’s not gonna be the Nick dictatorship and earn our membership, which every union should be doing. Not taking its members for granted and not representing what we want. Maybe then people will come back and I’d hope reps would refund the dues requirement.

Because he is allowed to do whatever he wants because our constitution is insane and changing it is very difficult

NATCA doesn't care about most Core 30s. Core-30s live in higher cost of living. Get paid less for working more traffic per controller than ever. A lot of airports got rid of ramp control and now Ground has to work it with no pay increase. Oh and just about every Core-30 is in a high cost of living area compared to Z's. ZOA can complain all they want but SFO and OAK have it worst. ZJX is well outside Jacksonville. ZDC is in a much cheaper area compared to IAD, DCA, and BWI. ZDV well outside of Denver. ZTL well outside of Atlanta. ZAU outside Chicago compared to ORD and RFD.

But hey, at least Nick is going to try and convince the FAA to redo the complexity formula while tower/tracon controllers get absolutely fucked on commuting and cost of living because NATCA only cares about centers.
I see what you’re saying and the FAA should’ve adjusted that difference over the years. The coincidence (and side note) here is that back in the 70’s the FAA strategically built all the centers outside of all the major cities purposefully for nuclear resistance, assuming habits of the Cold War days had crosshairs directly on the major cities themselves. That’s also why the ops floor is a huge faraday cage.

Sure this is good but... We don't vote on anything at the convention the delegates "vote".

So in or out in doesn't matter.

I agree with the sentiment, however, a similar amendment was proposed in 2021 and 2023…. Many people probably figure what’s the point now in 2025?

I hope people take it seriously this time. Maybe third time is the charm.

2021: A 21-21

2023 RS 23-11
yes maybe 3rd time is the charm. maybe there weren't enough pissed off people from the 2020. I think now there are more

but to view both sides of the coin. amending the constitution so that the membership votes on any extension may get pushback because historically the membership is horrible at voting for things. the greatest contract ever aka slate book took two votes to ratify, this past election had a good turn out but still well below where it should be. leaders may look at an amendment like this as it would halt or limit decisions our leaders want to make.

Christine said there were some ideas he heard were to let the NEB vote on it. the RVPs should know what their members want and would vote that way. personally I dont like that idea because we could still get a RVP that goes rogue or votes against what their members want. then we are kinda back into the same position we are in now

so maybe we can get a combination?? let the members vote, if the total vote is less than 51% of the membership then it gets passed to the NEB who then decide.

I support an amendment to where the NEB votes on all national MOUs. All votes will be recorded and made public. EVP acts as tiebreaker and you’d need a certain amount of members to make a quorum. Right now there are zero checks and balances and zero accountability.

its not my place but it has to do with the NEB minutes from October that still have not been published. this has been asked on multiple town halls as to why they have not been published. there is a reason why its being asked
Then say it! Don’t just pass the buck to the next controller (Lenny). Be the change you want to see. Secrecy no more!

Anybody else find it ironic that the same NATCA people that complain about people not getting involved for change are the same ones that were bashing JD about not having negotiation experience. Then turn around and vote for someone that doesn’t negotiate and swipes the NATCA credit card like a drunk congressman.

Yes but also they were lied too
