Finally got the word that I’ll be heading to OKC here in April and wanted to start a thread to see if others had this class as well.

Haven’t picked a housing provider yet, but leaning towards either Kim’s or Anatole.

Thanks appreciate it! Roughly a year. Longest wait of my life lol. I'll post my timeline below for reference, but my Security Clearance took forever to come thru.

Evening guys! Looking forward to meeting everyone come April 27th.. assuming this virus does not affect class dates. Heading up to OKC next week to check out the academy and housing situation. Let me know if there is anything you might want addressed, and I will try to find an answer while I am there. FYI HR will release the welcome packet no more than 30 days prior to the start date.

Well just got off the phone with HR. Looks like this class has been cancelled/postponed. Same story as other classes. They offered the option of on boarding or just delaying your class date until after the academy reopens. Went ahead and delayed the class since I still have a secure job still. We’ll see you all again whenever the academy reopens!

Was contacted this week, and decided to proceed with the remote onboarding and basics. I booked my stay at the TownePlace Suites two weeks ago, and you can collect reward points while the FAA covers the housing costs.

I'm confused: they're giving you per diem? Or are you physically going to the academy somehow?

The FAA will only cover the housing costs during the time you are in OKC. During the virtual basics class we will not be collecting the per diem. Only mentioned the hotel as a suggestion for housing.

The room was reserved before HR notified me of the option to take basics online, and we were instructed to assume the original schedule unless notified otherwise.

I spoke directly with the hotel chain corporate housing representative who suggested booking sooner rather than later. Multiple companies using hotels in the area have had their training schedules affected by the pandemic not just the FAA.

You should probably cancel until you know your actual class date. Do you really think living in a hotel, in a new city, without per diem, for who knows how long is the best idea?

Just cancel the damn hotel lol, it's not like there's going to be any massive surge in demand in the next month. They're going to be begging for your businesse.

You should probably cancel until you know your actual class date. Do you really think living in a hotel, in a new city, without per diem, for who knows how long is the best idea?

No I don't, and she is well aware of the situation. She works directly with someone at MMAC, and knew the class date would be up in the air. Was planning to contact her this week now that I have heard from HR.

Only going off the representative's suggestion. She said many other companies use these hotels for corporate training, and to book then adjust the schedule once more is known. Also do not see what is wrong with holding a booking when there is a 24hr cancellation policy..

He said he’s going to cancel it cus it has a 24 hour cancel policy. You can’t even pay for the hotel yourself anymore. The faa pays directly. So it would be automatically canceled

According to HR we should finish basics on schedule by May 29, and then begin initial tower on June 1st in OKC. This is going off of the best case scenario, and could be pushed back. If the class date is moved, I will be able to support myself until it begins.

All it took was one phone call to modify the reservation to June 1st, and I will update it as more information becomes available from HR. Nothing wrong with holding it.
