About how long does it take for a class to open up for the pit ?I’m not about to post an MOU or copies of emails here. If you want to know how the program works...
Trainee arrives to ZNY. They get assigned an area to complete A side training. Once a class opens for the PIT, they go to the PIT. Spend a year in the PIT and get sent back to an area that needs them at the time.
Upon certification in the PIT, trainee gets D2.
Anything else you want to know?

Usually doesn’t take very long (in ZNY terms). Maybe a few months at most. But it’s always subject to change. My area hasn’t seen anyone doing their A sides here in a long while probably because of the training hold.
Thank you for the info, appreciate it. Anyone know if you can request ZNY even if it’s not on your list once you graduated the academy? That’s because you no longer get assigned a area until your 12-18 months is up in the pit. And it can take anywhere from 6-9 months before you get a pit class.

So it’s pretty much a guarantee to get passed the year probationary period if you go to ZNY?
You’re probably good at a lot of centers these days.
1. You can't request anything once you get a listThank you for the info, appreciate it. Anyone know if you can request ZNY even if it’s not on your list once you graduated the academy?
Thanks, I’m a N.Y. resident so that’s why I asked. But I’m willing to move. But it’s good to know they had that option for residents.1. You can't request anything once you get a list
2. When I was there NY residents could request ZNY
3. D2 pay and getting through a probationary period are not good reasons to volunteer for ZNY.

So probably doesn’t mean much in terms of not being terminated after failure anymore if that’s the case at most places.
Thank you for the info. I was thinking that would be the best move also. You're much better off going somewhere that has staffing and ERR'ing to ZNY later on. You'll check out way faster and make way more money. They're estimating 5-7 year certification times for people going through the pit. There is a tremendous backlog and sure you get D2 quickly but then you're stuck there for years.
Huh. Guess they've tinkered with it a few times now. So you're saying they no longer go to an area for A sides waiting to get a pit class? What do they do for those 6-9 months before getting a pit class? Monitor...nothing? And what the fuck would take so long for a pit class to get started?
For the first part of your question yes that’s correct.. and for that time you pretty much learn most of ZNY’s airspace until you get your class date. Class date is delayed because you can only have so many people in the pit. So you have to wait till the people at the top of the seniority (12-18 month expire) get pulled from the pit to a Area. Also budget comes into play.

Thats not true. Yes ETA’s to get certified will take longer depending on which Area you get sent to. 4-5 years if you go domestic. 2.5-3.5 if you go to the ocean. But you will not make more money elsewhere in the long run. That’s for sure.
Why is it so "backlogged?" Why is it so hard to put trainees in stage 3 classes? Also does that mean a fully checked out D side has to wait "years" for a stage 4 class? I don't get it. Is the lab broken or something?
It’s backlogged because of staff. In ZNY someone from the Area has to go to DYSIM with you. It’s not run by contractors like some centers. Every time you train it’s pulling a body from the floor. There’s areas that are short 2-3 people most days. They aren’t going to train you if they’re short on numbers.
