This is gonna be the thing for the next 5 or 10 years until we have some new event in the boom/bust flight cycle people use to prove thier amazing, all knowing atc God abilities to trainees, I guarantee it.Sounds like a lot of "pre 9/11" coots in here.
So true. My first facility I heard this crap non stop. And then we were audited for traffic count and a downgrade and their tune changed quick. “I guarantee traffic hasn’t dropped, I woulda noticed!” Can’t have it both ways folks! This is gonna be the thing for the next 5 or 10 years until we have some new event in the boom/bust flight cycle people use to prove thier amazing, all knowing atc God abilities to trainees, I guarantee it.
"you think this is busy? You should have seen it before covid! the sky was black with airplanes, we had no shitter paper, it was nuts, no way you'll be able to handle that if we get back to that level"
To be fair maybe the traffic haven’t changed, it was just a lot easier to fake traffic counts high back in the day (although centers are exempt). So true. My first facility I heard this crap non stop. I agree with you man, I’m practicing my lines just like drill instructors do in the military. Do you think we should work toward a “B” pay scale? I think it’s justified as new hires will never again have to work the traffic in the NAS that existed in 2019.This is gonna be the thing for the next 5 or 10 years until we have some new event in the boom/bust flight cycle people use to prove thier amazing, all knowing atc God abilities to trainees, I guarantee it.

They did get scolded for padding the count by an extra 80% ?To be fair maybe the traffic haven’t changed, it was just a lot easier to fake traffic counts high back in the day (although centers are exempt).
How are they going to certify on simulated traffic? Lab scenarios are all written with stupid unrealistic gotcha moments in mind more than managing a real world traffic flowPer the telecon today: still no timetable for when developmentals will be returning. When we do return, basically the lab will be utilized for all training. The hope is to get people who were close to certifying to do so via simulated traffic. It sounds like training on the floor might not be a thing until social distancing is no longer a thing, and until traffic begins to increase. Pretty much sounds like everyone is going to be in lab purgatory for months, if not years, whenever we do actually go back.
They’re all just waiting to get forcedSounds like they still have a lot to work out.
Literally nobody knows anything apparently. Not the agency, not NATCA.
I'm gonna guess no.So are non essentials going back next week or what?
Is this your facility only? If so, are you En Route, TRACON, or tower?Per the telecon today: still no timetable for when developmentals will be returning. En route. The call was only for my facility.
They’ll prolly decide on the 14th. Through the 15th could be interpreted as the 15th is on hold.Anyone hear anything more on the hold for May 15? It’d be nice to know if we’re going to work on Friday, although it seems unlikely. It’s frustrating that NATCA and the Agency are obviously having these discussions behind closed doors somewhere, but the only answer they’ll give any of us is “we know nothing.”
That’s true. You wouldn’t think something like this would be a day-to-day decision, but I guess it is.They’ll prolly decide on the 14th. Through the 15th could be interpreted as the 15th is on hold.
I have a feeling they are going to start letting different regions decide. That’s true. You wouldn’t think something like this would be a day-to-day decision, but I guess it is.
That makes sense to me. It definitely seems like everybody is sitting around waiting for some decision from National right now that they don’t seem to want to make.I have a feeling they are going to start letting different regions decide.
It seems like a lot of facilities are starting to change their schedules tho. That makes sense to me. It definitely seems like everybody is sitting around waiting for some decision from National right now that they don’t seem to want to make.
I PMd youPer a NATCA rep I talked to today: “we anticipate the training hold will be extended.” He said this committee they formed on the national level is in charge of figuring out everything with training. No details beyond that.
Oooo I want to know tooI PMd you
