Where was I born? Technically, two different states....

Alright I never thought this would be an issue as I never thought I would work for Uncle Sam, but here I am.

I was brought into this world in the maternity ward of, yep! You guessed it! Blanchfield Army Community Hospital.

This hospital is located within Fort Campbell, KY; Montgomery county Tennessee.

I was issued a state of Tennessee birth certificate that lists the hospital address as fort Campbell KY. I was born in the early nineties (although a sibling, born in 1988 in the same hospital was issued a state of Kentucky birth certificate, which is a bit odd as Tennessee vital statistics "took over" in 1983).

My passport lists Kentucky as my birthplace, even though I mailed in my state of Tennessee birth certificate to the department of state, and Blanchfield is located within the physical limits of the state of Tennessee.

Where was I born? Does anybody know? Does it really matter? Is my passport wrong or was I wrong to choose Tennessee in my EODS?

I think if you're at the stage of filling out an EODS, you'll be fine. You might get a call from an "investigator" asking what it's about. Worst case, you'll have to explain it to an investigator, in person. I had to meet with an investigator over my clearance paperwork, and I was 3.5 months into the academy.

I'd say as long you're consistent in all your paperwork it shouldn't matter. I know a guy who gave the agency the wrong name(it's a long story) but it was the same wrong name across all his paperwork and they didn't know until he asked them to change it later in his career.

I went with Tennessee, hr said they would probably do that as well. I would bet Uncle Sam has dealt with this issue in the past.

You were born in Tennessee. The hospital is located in Tennessee therefore you were born in Montgomery county Clarkavillie, Tennessee.

My son was born is same hospital and everything states that he was born in Tennessee. Even though Ft. Campbell is technically Kentucky because post office located in Kentucky, most of Ft. Campbell is on Tennessee side.

I whole heatedly agree... My passport says Kentucky. Technically not Clarksville though. Realistically yes, but since it was on base i was actually born: Fort Campbell Kentucky, Tennessee.

That makes good sense and is consistent with everything I've read, as well as basic logic.

From what I understand though, they all came to this agreement back in 1983. Then five years later my older sibling is issued a Kentucky birth certificate from the same hospital I was issued a Tennessee certificate. Then you add in my passport starting Kentucky and......... Good job Uncle Sam!

GulfCharlie was born 2 different genders also, and he still made it through the background check so you should be fine.

I also visit Eastern Europe regularly and have never had a security interview even when working for homeland, what can I say ?‍♂️
