Word to the wise, there is an absolute frenzy to ERR out of any 7 and below facility in California except CRQ right now. Choose those places at your own risk 😉

How about SAN? Don't imagine many people wanting to leave there.

It's fun trying to figure out what will be on your list, but don't get your hopes up too high for a specific facility only to be brought crashing down when it's not there. Trust me, it's not a great feeling. My wife and I had been talking about an area we wanted to end up before I even applied, many months later a list comes and it has a facility in the exact area. To say we were excited would be an understatement. Sent in the rankings and we ended up not getting it. It felt like Mike Tyson came out of my phone and gut punched me when I read the email. So, to avoid that agony, my only advice would be to go in with an open mind bc you might end up a world away from where you want to be and actually really like it. Best of luck!

I hope PDK is still there when I go next month. I toured and spoke to the manager who implied they can influence where on the list they show up? Maybe they call placement at the Academy and get people reserved spots? I dunno.

Unfortunately, ATM's don't have any control over academy placement, nest, or prior experience hires. They cannot influence the list or reserve spots.

CPC @ BGM here... Let me know if you have any questions... We are a great young facility with amazing work environment (hr on, hr off, minimums) extremely fast checkout (a little over a year avg for both twr and rdr) and are decently staffed to accommodate releases. Insanely cheap cost of living. Everything you could want from a first facility. Come on in, the water's fine...

Good advice here. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity. I'll be happy as hell just to pass and go anywhere but seeing all the spots in my home area of Long Island get taken a couple months before starting the academy definitely stings a little lol!

That's one of the worst aspects of the new academy placement system. People that are from historically hard to staff facilities still need the stars to align to get back. If you have the desire to go Enroute, ZNY is the only facility left in the NCEPT that is a guaranteed selection if your facility is eligible when they select.

Not really. I know two (SAN and TOA) where people are pretty happy. Some want to move up, but it it's far from an "absolute frenzy."

What you say about the MGR influence isnt completely false, they can always try to be put on the training backlog list. Another thing you should be worried about outside of passing is making sure your grades are good enough so you arent in the bottom 3 or 4 in your class. There was .02 points between me and the guy above me, and he got to go to a facility he wanted, and I ended up at a level 5 in the midwest that is barely 65% staffed

It is a process to get put on the training backlog list. A manager needs to fill out the paper work, provide a justifiable reason, and it still needs to go through multiple approval channels before they're officially on. It also doesn't prevent people coming via hardship/nest/ERR to that facility, only new hires.

Yep, I'm aware of the process. More or less I was saying the ATM has some influence, it just may not be in the way the OP was hoping for.

Yeah I forgot SAN. TOA has sent very few people anywhere with the NCEPT and they've all gone to places way up on the list. Last I heard almost everyone there was trying to get out but maybe it's changed.

TOA has sent ~8 people out of the NCEPT; for a facility for a target target of 11, I'd say quite a bit more than "very few." Most there do want to stay, like I said, not sure where you're getting youre info.
