Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-20-ALLSRCE-65607

Officially dropped my college classes and am just choosing to work full time until I hopefully get a class date. Was a tough decision but I feel like it’s the less stressful option and going into training with a fresh mind will be beneficial. Is anybody else in a similar situation? I had everything lined up and would be training for my commercial pilot license in the next couple months if I didn’t drop out. Just hoping this path for ATC and dropping everything is worth the risk.

I’m in a somewhat similar situation. Been slowly working towards completing my ratings for a while now while also going to college. Got a PPL + complex and a couple of associates degrees. Since the end of last year, I decided to put all further college and flight training on hold in order to pile up cash for possibly moving anywhere in the country. That way I can focus completely on the academy and then, if I pass, on training at the facility. If it all works out, I plan to get back to flight training and school once things get a bit more settled. I accept that it might take 2+ years though. If things go wrong, my backup is to return to getting my ratings.

Its ok bro. I risked it all. Dropped out of civil engineering in my senior year. Hopefully i get enroute lol.

Me too, dropped flight school but still a part time student and working full time.

Yeah I’m just about done with my instrument rating. Should be coming up on my check ride within the next month or so. I’m at least able to finish some training with whatever is in my flight account at my university. To tell you the truth. I love flying but 1. It’s a lot safer in the tower (have had a couple near misses at a high traffic Non-Towered airport.... high wing and low wing don’t jive well if people aren’t on comms). And 2... being able to fly for a living is a dream... but I do not want the life of an airline pilot after speaking with Delta, AA and UPS Captains. Other lucrative pilot jobs are extremely rare. But I feel a bit better knowing someone else is in similar shoes.

I just got too stressed out. I’ve been full time through the summer 16 credits a semester for 2.5 years. I’m a senior and I am BURNT. To say the least. But hopefully you’re able to get back to flying.

Hopefully. Then it would be worth it. This last semester all I studied was McGraw hill and Pearson online classes. Seemed like a big waste of money.

I have considered joining the Army or Air Guard just to help with school or if by some way I don't make this bid. Or even Advanced ATC, having a CTO is good secondary.

I’ve been there with the near misses and that’s even at a towered Class D. It can get a little squirrely when you’ve got a bunch of student pilots practicing in the pattern (and saying that they have you in sight when they don’t) but having ATC there definitely helps. I love flying too but I figure that if I can make this career work, I can always fly for myself, get my ratings/time build, and after I put in my 20 years I can look around and see what’s out there if I want to fly for a living. Plus I figure getting the ATC experience will give me a greater understanding of the NAS than most pilots have.

Also, good luck on the check ride. I’ve been on a few instrument flights and there’s nothing better in my opinion than breaking out on top of a broken or overcast layer and surfing right above.

Anyone have any insight on how the most recent round of testers might be treated compared to those able to test in 2020? I had to retake the ATSA because apparently PSI lost my test results from last June. I scored WQ this time around and it would seem that's good news as a lot of the WQs posting in this thread ended up getting TOLs. Wondering if I can expect the same treatment, especially considering that I age out of eligibility in July.

Based on what I’ve seen from this bid, and considering that there might not be an OTS bid this year, I would say that you have a decent chance of getting a TOL. Who knows with the federal gov, but I’ve seen a decent amount of folks from this bid with WQ get TOLs.

I was a teacher a did not resign a contract for next year. HR says early October, but yeah it’s freaky not having a full time when my paychecks stop coming in.

how often do ya'll ask for an update on if you are cleared yet or do I just have to wait for them to email me that I am fully clear? I did all my stuff in the beginning of March and all I'm waiting on is my Medical to clear. was told that my information is pending Flight Surgeon’s review, and that has been over a month ago

Just commenting to say that I am in the same boat.

I was in the opposite boat. I could have sworn I bombed it but saw I got qualified so I was pleasantly surprised. I’ve received a TOL in the past with just qualified but things could have changed since then so ??Yeah same I thought I bombed and got Bq

Did Covid slow the process down for you?
Covid made everything slow down be it getting our MMPI done, the fact HR was working from home, and the class size limitations and classing up delays because of positive cases
