Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-20-ALLSRCE-65607

Hey, just got my score back and got BQ, what do y'all think my chances at getting my TOL are?
Considering they pick from BQ first, you're chances are good.

I gotta catch up on some of the other forums here, but in the meantime, is there any real/meaningful way to prepare for the AT-SA?

I've seen courses online, but I dunno if they're worth the price.
Personally, I got the iPad app. I forget what it's called but there can't be too many of them. It helped in terms of becoming familiar with what material was on the ATSA. The format is very similar to the actual test.

Im from this bid and just graduated the Academy today (Terminal) if anyone has any questions about how it is out there and want a recent viewpoint, I’m all ears.
1) What was the most difficult part of the academy?

2) Do you regret not putting enough time into certain material?

3) How well did you score? (Top of your class, middle...)

1. Most difficult part is handling your nerves. No subject or material was difficult to learn/understand there. The instructors hold your hand and spoon feed for a while then you pick it up.

2. 0 regrets. Our class spent a ton of time studying together and making sure we understood rules or situations and how to apply the rules to them.

3. Middle of the pack, honestly though we had a lot of surprises and when it comes time to PA, you could be shocked at how things end up. Do the absolute best you can and score high, but it only matters for placement. After that, the scores don’t mean anything and TSS/academy traffic is not even a fraction of a percent like real world traffic.

I do want to ask how the instructors are personality wise? I trained to be a controller in the Army and the instructors I had could get pretty tough on people. Just curious if it’s more of a relaxed environment.

From the sound of it, it seems like they give you ample time and resources to learn the book material but the place where people make or break themselves is the simulation content. Is it just a matter of learning your shit and applying it correctly to the sims while trying to not dig yourself a hole? Sounds like one's qualities of one's self as a person and how well you handle situations can outweigh what you know and affect your score more than knowing the material itself.

Were you allowed to use the simulators in your personal time?

There is one guy here that will yell at you. Ill let you figure out who that is when the time comes. Other ones do not at all. They're laid back and patient. My class loved that guy though.

They give you a lot of information in a short amount of time but you are responsible for learning and interpreting it on your “off” time. How you spend your off time is entirely on you.

you need to learn your shit for sims, if youre good you’ll avoid situations before they happen but you absolutely wont be good if youre new so you WILL be in holes. The key to this is knowing how to dig yourself out of the hole without mentally losing it. That quality sometimes just cant be taught.

Anyone also got a FAA call from WA state area code 425? I missed it yesterday morning so I’ve been trying to call back since then. When I call today it just doesn’t even ring anymore and tells me that he doesn’t have vm set up then hang up on me. Any idea
Based on our list and my career goals, FAY is the smart choice for me.

I didn’t have any expectations going in... so for an accurate “going in feel” I’d say 5 (neutral)

Now that it’s all said and done, it all depends on how you apply yourself and how well you can control/handle your nerves. Can you run a simulated problem in front of an FAA evaluator with your job on the line? If you get yourself down the shitter, can you dig yourself out? That is the real academy. As far as a score goes for how it actually is it’s a 10/10 for me. Subjective...but it’s no joke.
Good luck there. Just know you won't be able to leave there any time soon. If you're ok with that then you will be fine.

The rumor is august. Must be under 31

What’s up everybody,

Im from this bid and just graduated the Academy today (Terminal) if anyone has any questions about how it is out there and want a recent viewpoint, I’m all ears. There’s a TON of pages of academy info on here if you search but I’ll be happy to give the latest deets.
Do the tower stimulators have a voice recognition system or there is actually a person controlling the aircraft on the pseudo side?

3 years is nothing. Thanks!

Voice rec and pseudo’s that control aircraft only if the voice rec messes up and it will mess up a ton.

Yeah, I hate voice rec! It reduces the efficiency when you have to give instruction 3-4 times to a single aircraft.
Horrible. Especially when you hit 10-13 and priority calls are important to nail one time and it reads back some effed up shit and you miss extending an upwind or a dep slot bc you have to repeat yourself.

I hope real-life pilots are much better than these voice rec ?

So back to square one and found out I wasn’t cleared for security, which I completed back in 12/1. The call was from the FAA adjudicator and still can’t get a hold of him. Also contacted security poc and he hasn’t replied to my email yet. Only thing I can do right now is to reach out to the adjudicator? But I guess it kinda explains why my security still had no progress by the 4th month and now I don’t even know if I’m gonna be cleared ?

Congrats!! Where are you headed? I don't have any questions yet, but I'm sure I will once I'm there (heading there in late July).
