MMPI-2 Tier 2 Process

Also, the whole first in/first out deal, I think, is a load of crap.
It is an outright lie. If they said something along the lines of, "First in/first out based on region/efficiency/conditions" then sure, whatever. But they just say first in first out, which is obviously not true based on the data in this forum.

I ended bringing this up with Hope once or twice as politely as possible and not accusatory at all, but she just ignores it.

Also, they said they we're getting through about 100 files over the last 4 months. I know that's got to be a lie.

Finally just had my tier 2 appointment yesterday. Did a retake of the MMPI, another test then had a general discussion. I got flagged for answering “too honest” and 2 questions that I answered backwards by accident. After going over my previous test it was obvious to him I didn’t mean to answer that way and he made a note in the file. At the end he just said he writes up a report and sends it into the FAA. Everything was ok on my file and I shouldn’t have anything to worry about. After reading the previous talk about DQ even after the Dr said everything is good still makes me nervous.
I felt the same way when I finished my tier 2 appointment back in November. I answered too honest as well on the MMPI and got flagged with a couple of things and the doctor realized that. He finally sent the report mid January and I got the email from Hope last week

Has anyone received a placement list recently? Haven’t seen any posted in a long time. I spoke with my HR and I’m currently “pending facility placement”, ie a list. Im not sure when I’ll get one but from my 2018 hiring timeline it was within a few weeks of being cleared.

I’m off the streets but I went to CTI school and I was told once I’m cleared tier 2 my FOL is N90. It’s that or I’m not ever going to the acadamy. But I have a lot of friends there so I’m pretty excited. Is that what you meant by placement list?

How long did it take you from psychology exam to a "pending facility placement" status? Was it around four months?

Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, it did.

I was notified by official mail today that I have to send in my Class 2 to the regional medical office, thereby rendering me unable to perform ATC in any fashion until my appeal is dealt with. I'm getting laid off by my contract tower on Monday because of said revocation. If I lose my appeal, it looks like I'll never be able to control again.

Any prior experience controllers dealt with this? I assume not. None of this would have happened if I hadn't applied to the FAA.

That's absolutely insane man. Sounds like an absolute nightmare. I'm sorry if this is bad timing for you, but did the interview with the psychologist go well for you? Or did some doctor in an office somewhere just look at a few facts and mark you off the list? I have a hard time understanding how something like this happens.

I felt like my interview went well, but something just isn't adding up. I've been on the phones all day with FAA doctors and one of the guys let it slip that (basically) I got tore apart during my Tier 2 eval. Hard to know for sure though because it wasn't an explicit statement, just a side comment. The weirdest part is, I felt confident leaving my appointment. My lady was super nice and seemed relatively on my side as far as everything goes.

You should start looking into getting a lawyer who deals with this sort of thing

Sounds awful. Sorry to hear. Maybe I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure you can still go DoD. Army at least uses its own medical and does not require the FAA class 2

Almost 4 months to the day.

Big if true, I'd go DoD in a heartbeat. The worst part about all of this is getting laid off with basically no notice. If I lost my medical in the FAA or DoD they would probably put me in a support position for however long until my appeal went through. Being a contractor I basically just got canned... All because I applied to the FAA and they "diagnosed" me with mental conditions that are just not true.

Thanks for the advice, but at this point I feel like I'm fighting for something I'm not even sure I want anymore. My desire to be a controller has been destroyed by this whole process the FAA is putting me through. After seeing how NCEPT goes, along with the NATCA vaccine/mask/Covid training policy impacts; I don't think bullsh*t like this will ever stop. Why hire lawyers and pay possibly tens of thousands of dollars, just to wait 2 more years and get assigned some shit hole level 7 in the middle of nowhere with no hope of transferring out?

The paychecks of higher level facilities and pension are my only motivators at this point. I'm not sure how badly do I want those golden handcuffs anymore.

By the way, I tip my cap to everyone who joined the FAA seamlessly. I think it's a great gig for the people it works out for

This is awful and I'm sorry to hear this for you. I feel for man and I hope it all works out sooner than later.

Do you think they took it away because you appealed?
As a punishment. Or were they going to take it away anyways after DQ?

I want to share my pre-employment experience with you guys and possibly try to get some insight on what to expect from this point on (even though I should probably just shut up and wait).

I was Tier 2'd from the January 2020 bid back in June 2021. In my initial Tier 2 e-mail I was informed that "based on my MMPI-2 results, a Tier 2 evaluation is required." Within that same e-mail, they requested that I first get a neuropsychological evaluation due to a traumatic brain injury I sustained 15 years ago. I was also told that any expenses accrued would be out of my own pocket which I fully expected.

Fast forward to November 2021. I received an e-mail with the parameters of my neuropsych evaluation that the doctor needs to abide by. I found it strange that the parameters were for an ADD/ADHD testing series given the fact that I have no history of the disorder. I spoke to a number of neuropsychologists and was unable to secure an appointment within a reasonable time frame for a reasonable price. Recently, I found a FAA-approved neuropsychologist that gave me a reasonable price and could see me within a months time. She found the testing parameters odd as well and instructed me to double check with the FAA before moving forward with an appointment because there is quite a difference in pricing between the ADHD testing and full neuropsych workup. I checked in with my medical POC and I was told that they would check with their psychologist to make sure the parameters were correct.

Yesterday I received an e-mail stating that I actually do not need an evaluation done of any sort and that all I need to do is make a personal statement saying that there have been no changes in my medical or legal status. I was under the impression that this would finally take me out of the Tier 2 process and move me along to full clearance. However, that was not the case as I still need to meet with an evaluator to discuss my MMPI-2 (and most likely retake it). In the last e-mail I received from my medical POC, she mentions that the Tier 2 process has been "restarted" for me which is extremely discouraging in terms of any sort of timeline. I feel the last 9 months have been completely wasted for me due to a clerical error on their part.

Is there anyway I can request to be fast-tracked due to this mishap or am I at their mercy? My guess is that, since I'm dealing with the government, there is most likely absolutely nothing I can do. But if anyone has any insight or suggestions it would be much appreciated.

Just stay on them and keep asking for updates. You are at their mercy but don't let them forget about you. Email every 3 weeks asking for an update.
