MMPI-2 Tier 2 Process

It’s been pretty quiet in this thread lately. I hit a year since I took my MMPI earlier this month. Still waiting to schedule my appointment.

Hopefully soon we get a nice little wave of evals set up/facility lists for those that already had their evals. Maybe they’re working on us in bunches, the calm before the storm. But I’m sure I’m being unrealistically optimistic.

March 21 bid, tier 2 notified August 21.

I said screw it and got picked up at a contract tower. I scheduled my flight physical with the AME and actually received my class II before I left the docs office in the same visit. No pysch required for FCT's. Its really messed up why prior exp people need to go through this for one but not the other.

I received my list yesterday. I think I'm the last from the May 2019 bid. I've already sent in my preferences.

Took MMPI-2 in March got told end of May Tier 2. Might be quicker to clone a twin and apply in the next weeks bid. Based on what I've seen looks like a extremely large portion of Tier 2 individuals simply scored to "high". Why they're using a personality test where you can score too well is really ridiculous to me. Either they need to adopt a new test that is actually good or beef up the people in charge of Tier 2s since there's less than 200 each hiring cycle. A computer should be able to scan the files and quickly sort between actual crazy people and those who score well. They stated they referred my file to a Flight Surgeon. Why does it take a year to look at 2 page file? Seems like laziness to just be honest about it and the excuse that Covid slowed things down is really lame in addition to that. There was literally like two flights the entirety of 2020 should have been an ideal time to clean up all the backend stuff.

Also totally forgot they had the 10 minute video prior to taking the MMPI-2 where they literally say so many people fail it that turn out to be totally fine and that it cost the "taxpayer's money". If its so bad you have a 10 minute video for it maybe move onto a different test?

Welcome to Tier 2

anyone else prior military in the tier 2 process and having issues getting military records delivered? i've submitted 4 requests for my records to naval personnel command and they've confirmed they were sent. yet the FAA hasn't received them. going on a year waiting for my records to be received...

I do wonder how often the test analysis is updated to deal with different generations and such (knowing the FAA, probably never). The MMPI is almost the definition of culturally bias. But that's why I think they won't automate the process too much. You'd have to blatantly program it to score groups differently. Religion, race, sexuality, and age group all are factors in how people score on the MMPI2.
Its probably less problematic to have you see someone, rather then have a program that says all priests get a pass on scoring "too perfect", etc.

Hello all, apparently I’ve been tier 2’d, and just like everybody else I have no idea why. Been controlling for years but guess my MMPI results were not satisfactory. I’ve read most of the post here, sounds like minimum one year wait?

I’m active duty USAF and start terminal in a few months, probably going to contract for awhile or work DOD until this whole issue gets straightened. TIA.

Prior Army here. It took 6 months total for my records to be received. It took me reaching out to my district representative to retrieve the documents from the national archives and forward them to the FAA address listed on the provided SF-180. When I contacted the representative to files received was 2 months.

It would be better to just sort the perfect people into the school and have the instructors deicide if you're crazy or not. A 567 Question test taken on a computer in a dark room is a lot less telling then actually interacting with someone. If the MMPI-2 calls someone crazy for choosing the demon responses and the teenage angst ones, then sure save time and remove them from the process. But someone scoring to highly should just be moved on into the school
