Transportation Industry Pay Increases

Truth, my friend. Truth.

OR cash rewards and the like go to the members of the local good ole boy club.
Every other politician up to and including NATCA officers can be bought and paid for, why not us? There seems to be this mindset that problems will fix themselves if you just throw more money at it. Well shit, let’s see some of that money then. Every airport ever collects landing fees, ramp fees, contracts with major airlines, etc. Why not cut us in on some of that cash? You have city and county officials vying for increased traffic numbers because it means more money for them while they sit on their hands. We’re the ones that suffer from it.

“We’re not allowed to recommend one FBO over the other because it would show favoritism.” I say fuck it. Cut me in on the profits and I’ll send every Tom, Dick, and Harry your way. (For legal purposes, this is a joke and I do not nor would I ever take bribes for services)

That said, every time we have the hurricane hunters in town, the owner of the FBO is quick to deliver handjobs and donuts to their crew at the opening bell, every single day. You know how many times he’s brought us donuts for putting up with their shit? Zero. The only “appreciation” we got, one time, was a “thank you” basket full of goodies. And when I say goodies, I mean they were moving from one hangar to a new one and we got shit from the back of the bottom drawer in their desk. Read: Southwest Airlines in flight peanut packet. Southwest doesn’t even fly into our airport 🤦🏻‍♂️

My facility started handing out SL counsel letters for 25% of the controllers because of the OT callouts. One of the people had only called out of 4 OT's over the course of 3 months, no other shifts.

One of the other controllers that calls out of almost every OT ended up getting it in writing that the supes are basically saying that we need to show up to all of our OT even though we are stating we are fatigued.

We are showing them that we are making it work with 6 day work weeks. This is ridiculous. I don't have kids so I work about 90% of them but as soon as I start having a family I sure as shit won't be showing up for my 6th day. The FAA could give a shit less about my mental health nor my life outside of work, so why should I put that all on the line for the FAA??

If you want a divorce and your kids to hate you so bad that you'll shit on your coworkers for not showing up to OT while you get those 4 days off a month, be our guest. But don't expect your coworkers to want the same out of life. The FAA needs to fix this issue fast.

Problem is there is no fast fix.

There are people out there who base their entire lives around OT: whether it’s a more expensive house, more/nicer cars, boat, etc. I’m not sacrificing my personal life and wellbeing because someone made poor financial decisions based on conditional income.

Additionally, I live by the idea that at the end of the day, I am responsible for my own well-being. Nobody else is and nobody else’s. Many instances in life have reminded me that nobody is going to look after number one like you will. People will look to fuck you over at every turn if they stand to benefit from it.

Lastly, and this is strictly figuratively speaking because the entire reason this thread is here is because the FAA has a significant staffing issue, but this job will not hesitate to replace you the minute you leave. Your family, friends, however will mourn your loss far longer.

In summation, the FAA is no individual being. It’s not a company whose margins rely on your performance. It’s a governmental machine. It doesn’t owe you anything nor do you owe it. Take your off days, be with your family, protect yourself.

My first kid was born and my mindset has completely shifted. OT and holidays are great money, but seriously fuck all of it. I always volunteered to work for families when I was single and newly married. Now that my boy is in the picture, I 1111100000% understand why folks go supervisor, TMU, SSS, etc. because I’m already dreading having to return to shift work and not see him all day.

To get back on the title topic, American's new pilot contract has 12 yr captains making $400 an hour.
"The more than 15,000 pilots at American will get immediate raises of 21% with compensation increasing more than 46% over the duration of the four-year contract, including 401(k) contributions, their union said Monday."

Thank goodness our NATCA Pres went to bat for us in front of congress a few months ago for the better! (This is sarcasm for every smooth brained member in this feed)

Private sector or not, there should not be a discrepancy of 250+ an hour between pilots and controllers. That’s asinine.

The upcoming UAW negotiation/strike seems like it is going to be a real litmus test for both labor and politics. Shawn Fain has been beating his chest hard in the run-up and hopefully will be able to back it up. They're explicitly pushing for a 40% raise over the next 4 years (20% immediate and 5% every year) as it mirrors the average executive pay raise over the last 4 years. If they get anywhere near that, and taking into account all other recent labor victories by UPS Teamsters and airline pilots, I wonder what kind of pressure/expectations will be put on NATCA by its membership...

None because even though everyone likes to talk shit about them, few have the balls to stop sending them money every 2 weeks. I am a hypocrite who continues to be extorted by NATCA until I get to my forever facility because they effectively have control over NCEPT selections.

Idk some areas are getting almost 50/50 these days. No one cares is someone quits anymore

Lol, you do know that pilots can only work a maximum of 1000 hours a year. It's not a 40 hour a week job. They only get paid when the engines are turning. (There are nuances, I know) If a pilot made what a CPC at a level 12 makes per hour they would be making less than a CPC at a level 4. The hourly rates are not apples to apples.

Scamming is using entitled benefits? Never thought I’d see someone bitch about parents getting baby leave, that’s a first. Why don’t you donate you annual and sick leave to me, I wouldn't want you scamming and getting time off work
