Hiring Bid Experienced bid: FAA-ATO-17-ATCEXP-52850

Do you know how far out you can push your start date at the new facility? Im working overseas and these contract companies like a 60 day notice of termination. I would like to give them enough time to find my replacement. However, if thats going to come between me and my facility of choice...they (this contract company) will just have to deal.
You'll receive your list of facilities and rank them. 4-7 days later you'll receive your facility assignment with 3 available start dates. They vary slightly but are typically 30, 45, and 60 days out. You can coordinate with HR if you need more then 60 days, I've seen it done firsthand multiple times. If your contract company simply needs 60 days, you should have no problem fitting that timeline.

They will give you a choice of 3 start dates. I got my facility placement on Jan 3. My list of start dates were Jan 21, Feb 4, Feb 18. I called to see if I could push it back and she said she could do it til April on her end. I requested June and she called the Facility's ATM. ATM approved it so I start June 24th. They say that it rarely happens to push it back that far. Usually the facility wants someone asap and won't hold a spot that far out. I got lucky

Interesting thanks a lot! Are you from California by any chance? I'm hoping to get a lot of facilities in California like you did.

I was stationed in San diego 4 years ago. My bro and sis are stationed there now. Although I was upset at getting my #3 choice at first, it was actually the best thing that couldve happened. And there will be a lot of cali on everyone's list. I wanted a place with no state taxes (currently contract with RVA at BRO) but I'm not complaining. LA and SF area will be easy to get to if your exp is tower only and willing to sacrifice living in poverty lol.

Living in poverty he says lol how soon we forget what it’s like to live on active duty pay. Even with the BAH is was still like half what we get as a contractor or dod haha

Does anyone know how relocation works? I don’t remember anywhere where I had to state how many family members, kids or dependants I had so just curious to know if faa pays for our relocation or we pay for our move/relocation ourselves or how does it work?

You pay.

Ok thank you. How about help with finding housing once at the facility? Does the FAA or the facility help with something like that?
No. You may be able to find someone at your facility, perhaps the union who can give you info but it isn't standard

Only a few facilities offer housing....Grand Canyon, either San Juan or St. Thomas, and maybe Guam.

Ok thanks. Good to know so I can get started saving or setting something aside...I’ve been so excited and anxious waiting the long wait which everyone’s been waiting for that I completely forgot about the details of how the move is gonna be...I don’t have the best credit and moving to a completely different state (if that ends up being the case) with no idea of where to stay or knowing anyone might be a challenge...can anyone share their experience with the move or relocation?

What are the chances of getting Guam, Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico? Do you know? I was told before that even on the prior experience bid that those places aren’t a possibility just yet

Here you go.

Your first apartment/house at your first facility

Guam no longer offers base housing. They will set you up in a hotel for 2 months (can be extended to 4 months) as you find housing on your own though.
Just curious, the other ones make sense, but why Grand Canyon?
Grand Canyon is a very unique facility. You're located in the national park and legitimately an hour+ away from civilization in any direction.
