we understood the risks of negotiating a new contract. it wasn't going to be easy but you want to promote solidarity and give us something to fight for - this was it. but no nick took the easy way out and protected his a114s.
what we lost was the ability to negotiate real raises for the next 4 years. sure he'll probably get a pay MOU approved to pay extra on Saturdays which only effects part of the workforce. maybe possibly eventually we'll get FDT back, tiered OT, etc etc
this fear mongering about trump and possible return to a white book is absolute garbage. title 49 was fixed with the red book. trump's EOs - who cares. end collaboration and fight like hell. make things painful. management wants to implement some garbage procedure - follow it to a T and let it burn. in the end maybe we can't get the FFA to agree on a new contract and we go to an arbitrator - at least we can say we fought like hell and it didn't work rather then take the easy way out.
like JD I am in a similar position. ill be ok, im at my final facility and I can retire soon. ill take my 1.4% raise now and come back when this union can get some real wins
edit: oh and we can't open the contract at any point. it has to be MUTUALLY agreed upon. the only way the FFA is going to open it is there is a serious event like 9/11 or covid and they need to cut costs. at that point NATCA isn't going to open it.
edit 2: so the NEB had no input on it but had no issue sending out an email
"We look forward to connecting with you during the town halls and continuing to protect and advance our Union.
In Solidarity,
NATCA National Executive Board"
