Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Later classes are primarily to even out class size I would assume. They may have late TOL recipients and Tier 2 folks from prior bids getting placed into those classes as well.

My TOL is on hold until my deployment is over. So I wouldn’t be able to attend the classes until January or February with most of the tier 2 or delayed individuals.

While it’s inherently possible that folks could get a TOL at this point, it’s also been a few months with no new TOLs...

To those of you who have reached out, how were you able to get an actual response from Medical? I've emailed the generic address twice, and called once, but haven't received even a single reply... 3 weeks since MMPI and 2 since medical, and my HR POC says Med is all I'm waiting on.

Only reason I have my actual med POC's name/email is because she emailed me asking for paperwork on an injury I suffered less than a year ago. I think some people contacted the general med address and were referred to their med POC? Not sure though...

I doubt they'd have any news for you for at least 3 more weeks. It's been 7 weeks for me and counting.

I have emailed the generic medical email and have received responses usually the same day, and Ive emailed a few times.

Ok, I wasn't sure what the typical time frame was. It just seems like most people have been hearing something back within 2-4 weeks unless they're hit with a Tier 2. Plus, it sounds like most people who reach out for an update hear something back which has me a bit concerned there's an issue with mine...

Hey all, i found this thread awhile back after looking for some info on the application process. I got referred but never heard anything. I ended up calling one of the numbers listed earlier in this post and the kind lady told me that i had placed pretty middle of the road in band 2? I believe. She also mentioned that they might be taking a few more people soon but I may have misunderstood her. So I'm kind of assuming at this point I will have to try again next year, so I am asking if anyone has any advice they could give that might help me become better qualified.

I'm 21 and mostly been working retail, I have a 2 year college degree, but nothing special outside of that. I'm most of the way through being hired at the TSA (doing med check then I'm in the hiring pool), after not hearing anything I figured that would be better than the work I'm doing now. I've also considered the National Guard, but not sure if that's worth it if my end goal is to be hired at the FAA. I will probably try to start taking classes to a 4 year degree in a math related field while I am employed at the TSA.

I guess I will also add I also passed everything and am in the waiting list to be hired as an Electrical Apprentice at my local IBEW 48, but this is likely to be a year plus out and ATC would be my first choice.

The lady I talked to did say my scores from the ATSA could be kept for 3 years. Should i retest next year? Or just keep what I have?

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but any other opinions or insight would be awesome.

My main advice would be to retake the ATSA, especially if you scored middle of the road. I applied for the 2017 bid and did ok on the ATSA but no TOL. Applied again for the 2018 bid and retook it, and since I knew exactly what to expect, I did a LOT better and got a TOL this year. Keep in mind there are people in the best qualified band that have yet to receive a TOL, but scoring higher definitely increases your chances.

Edit: Also keep in mind this is a LOOOONG hiring process. I graduated CTI in June of 2017. I'm still waiting on an academy date almost two years later.

Retake the ATSA, and do better on it. That's about all you can attempt to improve on next time.

7 Weeks since medical and MMPI completed, and no tier 2. I'm just waiting on my medical clearance as well. Just got to be patient.

6 weeks for me and still waiting. That's pretty normal. A very lucky few get anything in 2-4 weeks.

Definitely retake the ATSA. Also purchase one of the practice tests. Some don't think it's necessary but many swear by it. Why not invest a few dollars and take the chance that it'll help you?

After inquiring for an update, I received a response from RC saying I did not clear the MMPI and need a Tier 2 evaluation. Is there a formal response that’s supposed to be sent out to schedule that or am I supposed to reach out for another update?

This was early April. I don’t want to bug because he did say it was a lengthy process and I am aware this takes a while, but it seems reaching out gets answers.

I got my FOL about 6 weeks after medical which was the last bit of the CIL I emailed the generic medical once and recieved a reply 2 days later from an actual persons FAA email that I would assume is my medical POC. I also found out from her that I was medically cleared for about a week before I got my class date. So even when everything is done, your HR rep still might not send a date right away for whatever reason
