Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

So is Enroute supposed to be much harder than terminal/radar? I'm hoping that's why the pay is different.

It’s a big difference out of the academy because you’ll be going to a low level terminal facility and enroute goes to enroute.

If your ultimate goal is to get to Level 12 pay then going center is the way to go. You’ll be years into the Level 12 band by the time a same day hire at terminal gets to bottom of the Level 12 band. It adds up fast.

Nope I got the phone call for a class date last thursday, got the FOL today.

Didn't want to say anything before I got the FOL.
Haha, at least she called you. I only got an email. I received the date yesterday and responded accepting the date last night. Figured the FOL would come the next day, but guess not

Question for those at the Academy, my guess is you get paid on the 1st and 15th of every month correct? so if you start the Academy on August 5th, your next paycheck will be the 15th, starting from the 5th. Also, if i'm not mistaken, it's hourly pay correct? or Salary?

$11.80 per hour, 80 hours a paycheck. Plus the per diem, which is different now I guess?

The only thing that’s different with your per diem is you don’t get housing option anymore. That is in the sense that you don’t have the option to pay the provider off of your own credit card anymore. It goes straight to the provider.

You’ll still get the meal and incidentals for 38 and change a day so long as your home address is 50 miles away.

Your paycheck is direct deposited every other Tuesday, the next upcoming payday is August 6th, then the 20th. It’s more in line with a salaried job than hourly in the sense you don’t keep up with a time card and you do not clock in/out at the beginning/end of the day (or for lunch). Your gross pay will be in the ballpark of $950 before any taxes/deductions.

You also get paid per diem once per month, as mentioned above it’ll end up being around $38/day. You’ll need to approve your per diem payment every month, your first month you have to go to the travel office, after that you can do it online.

The information on the housing per diem change is also correct, my class is the last class that was offered the ‘self pay’ option. Now you just let the travel office know where you’ll be staying, and they’ll pay your housing bill automatically.

So basically, it's in my best interest to get the best place possible, because no matter what, I won't be keeping any of the money left over. Got it

Exactly. Previously you could find a place (usually with multiple roommates) that charged less than the $57/day per diem and you could pocket the extra cash. Now it’s pretty much ‘use it or lose it.’

Well considering my wife and kid may be coming with me, I'll have to get the biggest place I can find with the per diem allowance. Any personal recommendations?

I’m staying at Anatole South with my wife and pets, and it’s been great so far. It’s within 5 mins of plenty of shopping/restaurant options, and only 10 mins from the Academy. As far as I know, most of the corporate units are one bedroom which may be a bit tight for a family, but you could definitely ask around. There are at least 3 or 4 companies that rent Anatole units to Academy students and most are fully furnished with free internet/utilities.
