Change in Status to those on Excused Absence (Proposal)?

I was told we are recallable to the point that I could technically be called in mid day between 0700-1530. Which I’m not arguing since they are paying me.

not be a jerk about it cuz free time off is pretty cool... but it would be extremely hard to enforce a quick recall that you didn't respond to. obv not as much teeth like a military recall status ("don't be late for the WAR") lotta peeps are worried like ooo what If I drive home to ________ , and then they CALL! Not you but peeps sayin things like that not realizing that no one gets in trouble, unless you fail a few drug tests in a row or get caught up In a sleeping witch hunt on your mid. Or get a save but then --gasp-- use poor phraseology in the process. Something that egregious could never win an award.

have u been studying your entire Center low map (hazing!) like a good ARTCC trainee and calling traffic as u drive around your neighborhood? Remember, "gimme ur best rate!" or "I need 3,000 feet per minute through twenty-one or else i'll be in the front office" , are not forms of positive control.

Lmao the only thing I've been studying is the inside of a Yuengling bottle for the last month. I'm sure that when we get recalled I'm gonna get so much classroom time it'll be like a low-budget porno.

Lmao. they said I’d never get recalled like that. But their point ‘‘twas if you get recalled you need to be like there tomorrow. And not like on vacation. They still want us to use leave if we are leaving town. Can’t say I really blame them.

I wouldn’t blame them if they were touching base with us. But it’s been seven weeks and no peep. No guidance about what they consider recall or that we couldn’t leave town. I’m gonna do any traveling I want to do. If I can’t make it for a next day recall I’ll just use leave starting that day. I’m not going to jump when they say “come” and show up same day. Not when every brunch includes mimosas!

Pretty much what we were told. It wouldn't be a call and be there within a couple hours. Just be there next day

No one told us that we had to use leave if we left town. One of the trainees went on the other side of the country to be with his girlfriend ever since this started. Lol

they said we would be given 24 hour notice to be back at work.

edit: this is at a tower

I think you’re supposed to use your own leave if you’re going to be doing anything that could be seen as a ‘vacation.’ We’re technically on excused absence, not leave, only because it’s impossible for us to telework with what we do. If the agency is paying someone to stay at home and self isolate/social distance, but then you’re posting pictures of yourself sitting on some beach 500 miles away, that’s not going to look very good. If you travel to ride our corona with family though and aren’t living it up, I’d say that’s a different story. I also heard if you’re recalled and cannot report within 24 hours, that could be an issue.

I was traveling from Nevada to Washington to sell my house a few times during our 5 off, management knew too, they didn't have a problem with it at all.

Who needs phases when they can just permanently say we are on "recall status". They just dangle that over us and boom, it's a blanket answer and can prevent them from having to provide dates or timelines.

Interestingly, I and other trainees at my fac were told on the day of us being sent home that if we leave town we are supposed to use leave. I've heard from other trainees at other facilities nothing was even mentioned about leaving town and using leave. Not sure if it was supposed to be common knowledge that would be the case or what.

Recallable isn’t defined in the contract or by any mou. If you have a cell phone, you’re recallable. Shut your mouth, don’t post dumb shit on social media and do you.

I agree, most people are/should be smart enough to not post about it. I understand your point that reacallable isn't defined anywhere, but I would argue that someone being told vs not being told they can't leave town would be handled differently if it were discovered somehow they had, in fact, left town.

I'm not saying anyone should do one way or the other, just the differences in how the excused absence has been portrayed by different facilities for trainees.

Received a call from my OM this morning telling me I had the option to volunteer to return to the operation and that the others that were on excused absence as well were going to do so. Texted the other guys that were out, no one is returning to the operation voluntarily XD. Have to love managements attempt to stack more bodies.

Are you out because you're in a high risk category?

You could also volunteer to be waterboarded or poke your eyes out

Ya if I was in your shoes I'd make them sweeten the pot a bit before I even thought about it.

Trying to get those hero controllers back on the boards for that sweet sweet 8 hr time off award. Kind of sad really.

That is some dirty stuff right there. Does the facility need more bodies, ie traffic, or is this just a 'cause I want to thing?

Wow. Messed up.
I shall not be exercising that. For 3 good reasons.
1. If I were to get it and die due to preexisting (though at the point they cut off my checks, I'll have to take that risk)
2. If I happened to get it and pass it on to someone who dies.
3.... and what I see as most likely... It's nice and fine being back for awhile, then you switch back to regular schedule in a couple months and come to find out those with underlying are still out, and you start to resent returning. Especially when it's not needed.
I'll add in a 4th, much less likely reason... but if you volunteered to return and somehow that screws you out of some other potential option/compensation we find out we have later on... that'd be the only thing I'd talk about at work for the next 20 years.

I care about my tower and team and all, and I'm happy to participate in some selfless shift swaps and changes here and there. But that ask is too much.

“That’s not how I interpreted that”

But what shift are you considered to be on? Day? Swing? Mid? In any case there are only 8 hours a day that you’re on excused absence, so there are 16 others that you can go anywhere or do anything you please. As long as you can make it back for your next shift period if called in
