Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-19-ALLSRCE-61676

For all of the ones who accepted this onboarding, was this the only date offered? Also, when were you medically cleared and who is your HR POC? Really trying to gauge when I might get a call if they’re going on order by medical clearance.
The lady I spoke with on the phone said they were putting all FOLs scheduled for August and September into the 9/14 date. I may not be quoting 100% of what she said correctly but it did seem like it was supposed to be one big virtual classroom for 9/14.

I was cleared of everything on March 19th. Someone else who got a call was cleared on March 26th in this thread so if you got cleared in April your call is likely coming in the next two weeks.

So i just talked to my POC and she said there are currently no plans or updates for the people who choose in person basics. And with classes scheduled through the end of the year it seems like we might be sidelined untill at least the start of next year....

Not a good idea to decline on line basics. Especially with an election, you may never see this career.

It doesn't matter how many times it's said, someone is still going to ask in another 4 days...
Since it’s only partially related to covid. They already were working to get rid of it. Seems like successfully found an online method. Now originally they were planning on doing it with just slides and no instructor. That failed.

There’s not going to be in person basics.
I understand that and i believe that is going to be true but right now i have been sidelined because i choose in person basics even though i have had both clearances since January. I have also asked multiple times and multiple people if i can switch to virtual onboarding and i have been told no you cant switch every time. So either there really will be in person basics eventually or i got the shit end of the stick and will have to do virtual onboarding after everyone has all ready done it.

I think a lot of members on here don’t understand why a person may have chosen to skip online basics. The common theme seems to be those who declined did so because they don’t like online learning. I honestly don’t think that is the case for most people. I turned down online basics because I would have been taking a 50% pay cut for an unknown amount of time and I was not willing to do that(I would be going on 5 months if I would have chosen online). If the academy is starting to return to normal I do not have any problems at all with online basics. It would be nice if we were given the option again now that things are slowly progressing.

Presidents term is 4 years love. Our contract expires next year and has to be renegotiated love. Hiring freeze could last years love. Aviation industry is crippling, but hey if your happy working for an ac company then im happy for you too.

Thats not what any of us think. We just know that the government changes in a blink of an eye and you may not have the opportunity in the future.

That is 100% percent why i didnt take it. I have a good job good life im not gonna sit on almost 50-60% percent reduction in pay just to sit for 6 months to a year being broke lol hell no. I would rather wait but like you said now that things have changed in would be nice to be offered the opportunity again. I think me and you are in the same boat. Dont worry we will get there!! Hopefully soon lol

For sure, we have waited this long already. It would be nice to have some form of communication from my POC though.

I’m happy for everyone who is getting a date though, I know it’s been a long process for everyone. Best of luck to you all

just got offered 9/14 terminal! for reference i reached out to CS in the beginning of april and finally got a reply on 4/24 that i've been cleared. but i'm guessing i was probably cleared sometime in end of march/beginning of april and they didn't tell me

Look, no one actually thinks you're dumb for not taking online basics due to financial situations, or whatever situation you want to come up with. Truthfully, no one on here really cares, it's not their life. But (as it seems lots of people tend to just willingly avoid) the government sucks for lack of better words. Here's a short list of things I have personally experienced, and seen happen.
1) being denied an experience bid because I had 2040 hours of Experience instead of 2080 mind you I had held ratings for 4 years at that point).
2) being picked up for a bid, go through my TOL, and then they rescind it due to the government shutdown (moreso, they just shut off the entire bid).
3) having 10 years of ATC experience, washing out of a core 30 facility, and being offered FSS spot since I can be a controller. And then get referred on the next open AND experienced bid.
4) (not me but a cowork r) goes through the entire process, finished CIL and never gets a FOL due to shutdown (this seems far-fetched but it's what she says and I'm not gonna question it)

So, what were saying is don't be surprised if the government tells you "ah... Sorry if you're waiting for in person basics, it will be 3 years" or "ah sorry, you elected for in person basics? Well, we won't have any more of those period so just apply next time!". Neither of the above things sound *that* far-fetched to me. If ATC is something that you really want to do, it is suggested to take the earliest path, even if it means some sacrifices. Mainly, because like many are saying, the hiring numbers look to be getting smaller and smaller every bid. BUT if ATC is something you think is cool and it'll be nice (aka sweet I got the job, or eh no big deal) then feel free to take your time, but don't be surprised if some wild stuff happens. It happens every bid

You missed some of the main points that we discussed earlier. With things slowly progressing if we were given the option again to start online we would take it. Unfortunately, it does not seem we will be afforded that option.

That was kind of the whole point for my original post. A lot of us didn’t elect “to wait for in-person” classes, we elected to wait for things to return to somewhat normal. Now that things are “somewhat normal” we just wish we were afforded the same opportunity that others are. Nothing more, nothing less.
