Ummm.theyre not there for the weather. Ever been to Anchorage, Minneapolis, Portland? They’re there for the very generous welfare packages. Thus, higher taxes in those areas.

I used to live in Minneapolis. If you were homeless, told em you were coming up, they’d meet you at the border with a check, haha

If hes talking about portland oregon, im from near there. I got 600 a week in trump bucks in addition to my 800ish unemployment per week, that netted me a little over 5g's a month to not work. I could have went with SERCO for less money working 40 hours a week at a tower but why go to work when I could make more not? I also put off working for the FAA until the last possible chance to maximize my cash flow to chill ratio.

The hyper-libertarian in me says if you feel So strongly about something you could donate your money voluntarily instead of Having it extorted from your check without your permission. I realize that’s a pipe dream, but being excessively taxed by governments who can’t balance a budget does piss me off. I also realize the irony of being pissed about federal taxes and being a federal employee. It’s a strange position to hold, especially after collecting a check sitting at home for ~5 months now.

I live in the Midwest and did the tax comparison between here and California. I compared my facility vs a facility in CA. My facility = 140k/year. CA facility 160k/year. Though making more in CA, one would pay 700 less in state tax. I think California’s brackets are made such to tax the super rich more heavily. ATC is not part of the super rich.

Until they run out of wealthy to tax then in comes the middle class, guess we'll see what Cuomo does since NY lost hundreds of billions due to the wealthy exodus. CA goes next.

True. Also, property tax is capped at 1% of home value and can only go up by 2% per year. Yeah the houses are expensive but you’re not seeing the assessment increase wildly year over year like almost every other jurisdiction.

I just think it’s cool I get to go surfing with my nextdoor neighbor now that I get some weekend days off with the 5/5 schedule

One of the coolest parts of SoCal that I enjoyed the most was being able to wake up living in OC near the beach and then driving up to Big Bear covered in snow during the winter. Or go from the desert, where it's 100*, to the beach at a cool 75* within a matter of hours.

I get tired just thinking about it, but I loved driving home from mammoth where there was 2ft of hard packed snow on all the roads after a 3 day blizzard and ending up at home, in February, sunny and 65.

You want to come back so you can train to get raises but you’re not willing to put in some effort while being paid to sit at home so you can know the shit backwards and forwards when you do come back? And you want me to put the effort in to train you? Get outta here with that shit.

If you can’t name a single runway, taxiway, approach procedure, a few frequencies, airspace parameters, tidbits of LOA’s, or snippets of the SOP once you return..
Then you deserve to wash. Our new trainees awaiting their first day to the facility will be questioned right at the front door. I hope for their sake they know at least the identifier of where they’re currently training, because I’m training all of them ?❤️
