Training hold

In the AF I saw first hand what happened when trainees were certified during slow times and then traffic picked back up. It resulted in the squadron commander calling the RAPCON saying next time just give them the freq and they’ll sequence themselves. Someone who is fine working a 20 rate does not mean they’re fine working a 60+ rate no matter how gradually it builds up to that.

Thanks for the heads up. I will now be deferring any flights that involve NY and surrounding areas for 4-6 years.

This wouldn’t surprise me. End of the year isn’t that far away and they have already shown they aren’t in any hurry.
Yeah, especially if they’re planning on doing phased in returns, that’s going to take time. We saw how long it took just to allow people already in the buildings to start training. Actually recalling people is going to take forever.

Idk I kinda feel like the flood gates are about to open. My prediction is EA comes back and everyone goes back to BWS whenever this new workgroup finishes meeting.

I didn’t even know there was a new workgroup. I’ve had 2 instructors, my training manager, and my fac rep all mention the 2021 thing over the past 2 weeks though. That makes me think it may be a bit more realistic.

Well it’s not a new workgroup but they have to do the phase 2. My center was already penciling in the stage 3 classes for the lab behind us if they can get them allowed to come back

What is bws?
The bid schedule 5 and 2. You’d have to go back to that to do full training. At least in a center

Oh ok. Yeah im not even sure my new facility knows i exist. Welp at least my annual leave will be maxed out this year.

The MOU says you can only train at half capacity anyway. If you normally trained 4 at a time then you can only train 2 and any deviation required region approval.

Yah but you’d actually need additional CPCs to train d sides since it opens another position. Our usual configuration has like 8 feet between scopes. I wonder if that matters.

The MOU also says training will start with the present schedule and with the phases, I highly doubt you’ll see D training anytime soon.

I’m ok with them training on this traffic, but certifying on it is ridiculous.

Our local is working with management/approach to coordinate loading up one side of the airport for training. It won’t be the same as the shittiness of normal ops, but if we can run a 70 hour all on one side of the airport it could at least give the feeling of working a 140 hour in the old days.

Also mentioned was 9/11, busiest day at my airport was Over 2600 pre-9/11. The same argument was made then about training and certifying people on slower traffic, and even at our busiest and highest pax numbers ever last year, we Didn’t even see a 2200 day. Nothing even approaching that honestly. Big foreign O&D airports like JFK, LAX, SFO will suffer a lot more than connecting hubs, even once lockdowns start to lift.
