Good for the trainees… but isn’t there 40-50k applicants every bid? OKC pay could be zero and I don’t think that would affect our recruitment. Also, if I’m considering a career in ATC, a deciding factor isn’t how much I’ll be paid in the first three months of my career. The main deciding factor is the average salary of someone in that field..

Long overdue, hope this takes some of the pressure off so people can focus on studying and not on bills
Lots of people apply and then turn their offers down because they can't afford to go train for 2 months. It wastes everyone's time and often academy classrooms have empty slots because of it.

Per diem is $50 a day and housing is covered via housing providers on top of that you're hr/wage. Ain't no way that's true

It's putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound. We all need cost of living raises for anyone to consider not retiring and staying longer so realistically 50% raises across the board with incentives not to transfer. Also something like a homestead bonus for your base pay if you agree you won't transfer.

The academy raise the only thing the FAA can implement unilaterally and quickly. They don't have to negotiate academy pay/conditions with the union. Those of you old people will remember white book era, when they went the opposite way and got rid of per diem.
I think it's counterintuitive though. Duffy is highlighting this shitty hourly pay, when the compensation is actually more then that. You see it happen all the time on reddit. People see academy pay and say they can't justify leaving their situation, then it gets explained to them that housing is free and you get per diem.
