With the announcement of the plan for troops to be out of the Middle East by September 11th, does anyone know how this will affect the contracting jobs out there?

If it were 7-9 years ago I would not have hesitated, now, absolutely not. Personally I give the current government 5 years optimistically, realistically 3 years or less.

I give those bases 3 weeks or less minus any military presence. Afghan army is a shit show.

US army out. US mercenaries in
The mercs have been there since day one.

And ya I give em a year till the taliban is back in full control of that place. Can't give democracy to people who just want to be left alone in thier villages. Even the dudes in the army overwhelmingly seem to be doing it for the western backed paycheck.

As far as what that means for contracting, I'd guess it's not great news if you are looking for a contract gig there. I honestly doubt the big airfields there keep operating anyways once the traffic is no longer there to support it, the afghan government (whatever form that ends up taking) isn't gonna want to pay, and probably can't afford it, and kbr is gonna have a hard time getting westerners to go there purely for a paycheck if they know anything about the history of that country.

At OAMS now and my site lead said his best guess is that we will be out of here by the end of June. Contracts for Kabul approach and center may stay through the Afghans but everywhere else is scheduled to be packed up and gone quick. But it could change. Multiple places have already been getting messed up by the Taliban so there is a chance to stay but its small.

I mean....In any case, do you REALLY wanna stay in a Taliban controlled country without a US military presence?

I value my life more than those sweet sweet tax free dollars.

I used to work there. It was relatively safe and a lot of fun actually. The contract for that place was through NATO as far as I remember, and the US presence was almost drawn down to nil at the time.

Yeah its pretty fun. Food is awful nut way better than when I was in Kandahar. Germans just packed up there last helos so I'm pretty sure it'll be a wrap soon.

Nah I personally wouldn't. Where I am at is considered one of the safer places but that would disappear inside of a week if the the military fully withdraws. Hell NATO gave a base back to the Afghans and the next day the taliban were attacking it.

Ya if it's me I'm considering my contract canceled and buying a ticket on my own dime if I could, though if you couldn't see the writing on the wall when we announced we were leaving and do it before now maybe you value money more than me.

I don't wanna become a liveleak video.

The combat footage sub was pretty good updates. Sounds like there’s c130 gunships and b52s doing stuff till the evac is complete. It would be super dumb for the taliban to attack us forces but who knows!

don’t give the US a reason to stay for 20 more years.

Yes. Much, much less. Like negative 25 days less.

Personally I figured it'd be a year or so, I am shocked at the speed the taliban retook the country worst case I was thinking a few months post withdrawal, but we weren't even fully out yet.
