Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-17-ALLSRCE-53474

I'm enroute and would love to switch, hope I get the call.
Out of curiousity, why are people so set on en route? Is it mostly due to more money or is it just a personal preference?
Wouldn't people rather sit in a tower?
I can’t really speak for personal preference since I haven’t done either, but mainly it’s more money and quicker as well. No matter where you go as an enroute trainee you’re gonna make good money. As tower you start lower level and it’s a toss up when you’ll get to go up in pay and level. At least that’s how I’ve understood it

Radar is way more fun than tower, especially at high level facilities where tower is all airliner regulated traffic. Doing actual work beats a nice view any day :) I'm sure a tower controller will chime in soon.
Have you ever worked in any tower?
Most of the high-level tracons are airline regulated traffic too.

Towers and tracons both have pros and cons, personal preference only.

Lol no I haven't. But I work monitor so I'm pretty much certified on local ?

Denver is FAR from standardized... Although I guess that is more the satellite traffic.

Another big difference between enroute and terminal that in enroute you'll likely be training for 2-3 years whereas in terminal a majority of the facilities you'll certify in less than a year and a half.

Just got the call about 5:30pm Central! September 19th is the day!! As others were mentioning this happening to them. I got offered a terminal class Aug 31st that I had to turn down as I promised my boss I would leave in September (don't want to burn bridges).

I'll be turning 31 while down there. This job has been my dream since I was a young 15 years old. Just a few years ago I figured it was just never going to happen. But I always just hoped for that one chance. So it's now or never. Can't wait to meet everyone down there!

For your second question. I did not receive any bills believe it was all paid for by the"employer" I had to inform the Dr prior to appt that it was pre employment and who the agency hiring was

I'll address your first one. They will push your date back, you just have to give a good argument. They gave me an extra month, even though I requested an extra two.

So I know this might be late but maybe this happened to somebody else. Today I was registering to take another test with Psi. When all of the sudden I see that the test for last years bid is marked as “Absent for the test” but I actually did take it! Did this happen to someone? If it did please let me know how you proceeded because I guess if you are marked as absent that means the FAA never got your results from Psi. Thank you.

I've never heard of anyone having that problem. Either it was an honest mistake or they marked you that because you didnt get TOL. Either way you're scheduling to take the test, you have the opportunity to do better this year, I would bet on that and not trying to dig up old scores.

It seems like they have really slowed down on giving class dates. I know the end of the fiscal year for academy dates ends in September and the new one starts up in October. Anyone know if they finished up with filling the current fiscal year? I'm hoping they are going to start opening up classes for the following fiscal year.

FAA has met and exceeded their hiring goal for this fiscal year.

So that means those of us waiting on medical to clear still should expect a class date in fiscal 19 then? Pending being medically cleared of course.
