Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Having a car in OKC makes sense, but the shuttle is actually a get-out-of-jail-free card. If there’s a huge accident or train crossing or something else and you’re a few minutes late to class, as long as you’re on the shuttle, you’re in the clear. But if you’re in your personal vehicle, even if you walk into class at the exact same time as the shuttle people, you can be fired. It’s a huge risk to drive yourself to work every day for almost zero benefit.

So what I'm getting out of this is take the shuttle to class every day but have your car for the weekend and time after work, so you don't feel locked down.

Yeah. The majority of my class and other people I know brought their personal cars, but almost everyone took the shuttle every day unless they needed to go somewhere after class.

Makes sense. I turned my lease in like 4 months ago but have a government rental for a while. If I were to get an offer and date, it would be nice to just buy a car at my first facility :D

I’d be coming from the Pacific Northwest so driving there is kind of out of the question for me...guess I’ll learn to love the shuttle.

I think I’ll be driving to OKC from SoCal don’t want to be stuck in a ERJ for 2 in a half hours.

Finished with my physical, everything went well with the exception of color vision. Took ishihara 2 different ways and devorine one way and no go with which ever test. ?

What did they say? Is there something you can do for that?

Well it appears that if the FAA wants to then I could take another color vision test at the regional flight sergions office.

I’ve read in other threads that’s what they do. But who knows, just have to wait and see. I’ve been trying to ask around to see if anyone has recently gone through the process. Most recent I’ve found was a couple of years back, which in terms doesn’t really help. Would like to ask someone who may have gone through the process like last year. But haven’t been able to find anyone.

It’s strange to me because in the real world I see color without any problem. Guess will just have to wait and see.

Thought I read somewhere you got a car to use during your time at the academy, if you were flying there.
Lol no. If you drive though they will pay you mileage up to the amount the plane ticket would of cost . I know if you stay at isola bella they have courtesy cars though.
