Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Was hoping someone could give me advice. Three years ago I worked at a medical office and had an issue with another employee, (Employee was in a higher position and took/threw my bag across the room while I was on the phone with a patient because I had it near me during work hours), was written up for arguing with him over this, no curse words, no violence, just really upset that he took my bag and threw it. He was fired shortly after for a different reason (not showing up to work on time) but nonetheless, I was still written up for insubordination, I am wondering if this will lead to me having a high chance of having my security clearance denied?

Doubtful. If you're previously employer even puts that down, and its seen as an issue they would call you to get your side of the story.

Did you disclose this in your SF86? I had a write up on my record for a piece of equipment that went missing after I used it, the place I work for is unionized, so I grieved the write up and ended up having the entry reduced and eventually removed. I disclosed all of this to my Security POC, and she had me write a letter explaining exactly what happened, what came of it, etc. I think as long as you are honest and you disclose it, you'll be fine. I believe what they're really looking for as disqualifications are being fired for not showing up to work, not being responsible, etc, and not a write up for some jerk throwing a bag. That kind of petty shit happens everywhere, trust me.

For those in the southeast, not sure if this helps or not, but I asked my HR POC if any clearances came in yesterday, since none of my POC answer any emails or calls, and she said "none at this time". Check my timeline if it makes you feel any better.

I would agree with you, however, came across this:
https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/directives/nd/nd1600-1E.pdf

On page 57 it states:" Personnel cannot hire an applicant under these procedures prior to completion of the required investigation if any of the issues listed below were admitted by the applicant in the employment application or investigative forms, or if the checks conducted revealed any of the issues.

(4) Any discharge from employment or resignation after being told he or she would be fired, within the last 5 years. "

When I called HR today, they said I neither quit nor was fired, I left after being written up, which isn't true. I truly did quit, (gave them two weeks notice) about a month later when I found a position that fit me better.

Very nervous that this will lead to me being tier II'd.

Filling out my SF-86 form, now and came across the employment section hence this post and I was definitely planning on disclosing it, that's why I gave HR a call to make sure my SF-86 follows their records. Thank you for your advice, did it delay you at all?

Key words there are "prior to the completion of the required investigation". A full security investigation takes many months or even years to complete, so many (most?) ATC new-hires are granted conditional security clearances to allow them to start at the academy and even make it to their facilities before the background investigation is complete. If you're ineligible for a conditional clearance (which I'm not necessarily saying you are - hard to say in your example), then you'll need to wait until the full investigation is complete before going to OKC, which could push your class date back by months or longer. But I'd be very surprised if this alone was enough to outright deny you a clearance.

How do you know you were "written up"? I had trouble hearing my boss on the radio so he said made a note in my file but i don't think i was written up.

In the USAF we would get “written up” with letters of counseling and those would be official. I know they don’t care about that stuff in eQIP. If you’re really concerned bring it up to your investigator.

i haven't been cleared from security yet, so i can't say it has delayed me, but i'm sure they will take a little more time investigating this. I'd rather be honest and it take longer, than leave it out and have them DQ me.

For the veterans out there... Anyone know if there is a quicker way of getting your Official Military Personnel File then mailing in a SF-180 and waiting 3 to 6 months to have them get it you?

You can try this site, but your POC may not take them from there. I've heard some do and some don't, it's worth a shot
