Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Wonder if people are getting Tier 2'd for really not passing something or because the FAA wants them but doesn't have the capacity to take them at Academy or process at this time.

It doesn't make sense that the FAA would tier 2 people because they are backlogged at MMAC. They just wouldn't give out TOLs or class dates if they were backlogged. If I had to guess a portion of those that get Tier 2d, fail simply because they try to answer the questions perfectly, instead of honestly.

The ONLY thing that will Tier II you is the MMPI. That is it.

ha. The MMPI makes total sense and Tier2'ing people for several years is sound. /s

Is it not possible to just Tier2 people so they are more inclined to commit to the Academy in the long run? If you simply don't get a TOL then you'd likely just pursue another career altogether- which is suggested while waiting anyway. If I got Tier2'd I'd know I had a shot at the Academy because I at least got the TOL. Perhaps they are so overwhelmed it's better to keep candidates in indefinite processing than let them leave via no TOL, and only really exceptional candidates are streamlined immediately.

This is the type of stuff that conspiracy theories are made of.

I doubt the government, which couldn’t even pay its controllers quickly and efficiently would so over think a simple thing as hiring people who could easily flunk out or just walk away at any time.

A Tier II costs the FAA literally THOUSANDS if not tens of thousands of dollars. Many of these doctors charge well north of $300/hour. If the FAA was too backlogged they would not issue class dates. It's that plain and simple.

Some of your answers on the MMPI scored too high in a certain area and that automatically triggers the Tier II exam.

Please, trust me on this. I was Tier II'ed, failed, and had it overturned. I have seen how this test is scored, and some of it is in fact ridiculous. Some of it is not. I have taken that damn MMPI more times than one would wish upon their worst enemy. The unfortunate reality is that the test is VERY literal and a misunderstanding of a few words could score you too high in a certain category.

This is how it works. Please stop.

Finally got my first response from anyone since February, medical asking for the dates I completed everything...

Anyone who got this email get a FOL yet?

People are finished with their clearances and are stuck waiting anyway for classes in the N90 example because they are backlogged with trainees at the academy and at the facility. People will wait around regardless... if that's what is in store for them. Giving them the tier 2 just for a backlog isn't even needed. They don't NEED a psychological examination for delayed academy entrance, they will hold you back from getting a class date anyway. There's an actual reason to need further examination from an FAA shrink. Whether we think it's unfounded or not is up for debate

So I was reading in one of these threads that you can apply for a hardship transfer right as you sign into your first facility from the academy. Does anyone have any experiance with this and how likely is that to get approved? I have a pretty valid reason to try it but dont want to try that route if its really unlikely to get approved.
I imagine you’ll be ok.

Tier 2 here! Been busy with life and haven't been able to check the forum lately. I finally requested my military records from the Marine Corps and have done everything necessary to get this over with. Now the real waiting starts! Any tier 2 have any progress????? Don't imagine many would since I see lots from past years still waiting ?

I answered honestly and fast so I wouldn't second guess myself. Some people just don't have weird impulses or anything might be what got me to fail the MMPI. lol

I feel like if you have a secret and especially if you have a TS clearance you shouldn’t have to do the MMPI. If the federal government can trust us with world ending technology they should trust us to control planes. I passed mine but see a lot of other vets failing and seems stupid waste of time.

From the FAQ: "Salary is $24,633 to $30,808. Combined with per diem (annualized $34,894), the annualized salary at the academy is $59,527-$65,702 (2019)."
Why is there a difference in pay? Like who gets the 24,633 and who gets the 30,808

A background check isn't going to catch if you have a mental disorder...

My TOL says my base pay is $18,785, locality pay of 28.22% brings it to $24,086. And from what i understand, the per diem is non taxable correct?

Mine says base is $19,048 locality 29.32% for a total of $24,633. Not sure why they're different if we're both bottom of the totem pole new hires, but it could have something to do with our travel distance to the academy? But mine is what looks to be the minimum so idk why yours would be below that. And yes per diem is untaxed, I believe it's $95.60 per day.
