I wish mine would get impatient.

Southwest region here. Took the MMPI 2/21 and medical 3/7. Still waiting to find out if I’ve been tier 2 or cleared.

This forum may be a small sample of the TOL recipients...but it definitely seems like more tier 2 folks than not.

alright our class passed the basics end-of-course test today and now we move on to the real training starting tomorrow. I've been seeing a lot of new students and classes in the building lately.

Is there anything I should know or bring (that you didn't get think of) for my class starting in almost 2 weeks? How many are in your class? Appreciate your updates. Keep them coming.

No I felt pretty prepared. Just bring the proper paperwork that they tell you to bring in the welcome packet email and a backpack with a notebook. We were supposed to start with 12 but one person didn't show so we're a class of 11. They give you a book a week for basics and practice tests each week as well. Most of us drive to class now (vs taking the shuttle) and have had zero issues.

Is it too early to start looking for housing for my class that starts July 31st? I dont want to get behind the curve.

I've already contacted housing providers and my date is later than yours. Mind you, there seems to be some changes coming for per-diem with regards to the housing portion. Maybe whoever you contact can fill you in.

What's the potential change with the per diem?

FAA getting rid of self-pay option starting 6/1. Basically becomes use it or lose it. Gone are the days of pocketing extra per-diem, or so I've been told. Ask your housing provider if they've heard the same.

Which provider told you this? This would def change who I'm staying with if that's the case.

It's coming from providers and friends I have at the Academy currently. Anyone starting after 6/1 will not have a self-pay option.

Looks like some of the providers are giving a "wait and see" answer with the per diem, as it isn't quite official according to them.

Theoretically housing providers could just collect the full amount from the FAA and run a deal where they pay you something like $15 a day cash to stay there.

Theoretically, yes. But why would they? Sure it can be incentive, but that only works if others aren't full. There are occasionally vacancy issues where you don't quite have every option available.
