Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

There could be an advantage if you think that being CTI or something makes you better at the ATSA. Because if you think that, then your competition in Pool 1 has that same advantage while the people in Pool 2 won't. In my experience, however, CTI or being a vet (excluding preference points) makes you no better at the ATSA.

The point about the preference points putting CTI at a disadvantage is moot if they take 100% of the best qualified applicants from pool 1 (vet or not) and you got best qualified.

My 2 cents, I took the ATSA 3 times. 2 times not sure how I faired. Once got through and got a TOL.

Who knows if the the first 2 times I didn’t get selected because who knows what. In the end what happens if you don’t take the test and you don’t get through. Are you going to regret not taking it and keep waiting. I say, take the test and do your best.

I received a TOL this year. I really recommend to those of that you scored best qualified, not to retake the exam. The reason why you weren't selected if you were best qualified is that you were in pool 2 and not enough pool 1 applicants scored in that category, not because your scores were too low.

For those that didn't score in best qualified, I really recommend taking LSAT prep on khanacademy or other sites for the word/logic problems. Studying LSAT word/logic problems helped me identify deficiencies in how I was tackling those problems.

For the other sections (except collisions) , just use ATC-prep until you're answering questions without thinking and just using your reflexes (Number differences, left/right, for these sections)

For collisions, don't even study math at all for this section. All you need to know/pay attention to is the last digit in each. Problem is 9432-9191? Just look at the last digit 2-1 = 1, look for all answers with 1 at the end. 90% of the time, only one answer choice had the correct ending. Putting more effort to learn for that remaining 10%, isn't worth it since it'll be taking time away from your focus in stopping the collisions.

Extrarely Definitely apply as pool 1, as stated earlier in this thread, not enough pool 1 applicants scored high enough. If you scored in best qualified, you might have just received a TOL automatically from this bid.

I was going to type up a story, but decided to keep it short.

Best advice I could give is, DO NOT GIVE UP IF THIS IS YOUR DREAM JOB.

Keep applying until you get selected. But don’t give up your day job until you get your FOL.

This part is exactly what I did. Obviously I can never know exactly how I did, but I struggled hard on the word problems and a lot of them I ended up just doing a 50/50 guess after I had eliminated 2 of the problems. I'm fairly certain the only reason I got a TOL was outside of doing the numbers game perfect, I answered over 50% of the math problems in collisions while only having I think 3 collide. Work to your strengths on the test and just try your best to improve on what you know are your weaknesses.

If it were me, I’d retake the ATSA if I didn’t get in last year. You’ve already seen the test and know what sections to improve on. Why not go in and try to better your score?

I’d want more control over how I perform relative to everyone else. Maybe there will be stronger applicants this year? Just my two cents.

Well seems like that June date may be promising.

Good luck to all who apply.

FYI, just got the "Not Hired". Others might want to confirm. Let's hurry up June :)

Same. Sad, after a year of patience. I know several went through longer. How do you go about carrying over ATSA scores? If your previous application was accepted, just use the same one?

I would advise HR of your intention. They will tell you that your score will automatically carry over for 3 years, but it can't hurt.

I got a TOL off of the 2017 bid, but hadn't been hired yet when the 2018 bid came out due to a previous fight of a medical disqualification. I applied again in 2018 for the hell of it. The day TOLs went out back in December I got an email saying I was selected, but would not receive a TOL due to my disqualification. My ATSA score carried over from the year before. My DQ has since been overturned.

Get the prep software, and if you're Pool 2 and found out you're "Best-Qualified", if I were you, I would not retake the ATSA and risk superseding a better score. HR did tell me specifically that if I retook and got a worse score, the worse score would override my better score.

This might be a very dumb question but I have to ask it. I have a TOL, and I was notified I was tier 2 in May, for the 2018 bid. The wait could be 2 years, I'm ready for that. Should I apply for the OTS bid that is coming up in a few days? If I passed everything, I would get to take the MMPI again probably before I even have the opportunity to do so with a psychiatrist for my current TOL.

They don't just forget you exist, record is still there for you. Not a good idea to re-apply.

Never a good idea to try and cheat the system. I know the MMPI is a thorn in the side of a lot of people, but like it or not, it has a purpose for being there and those that get flagged (for whatever reason) need to go through the proper steps if they really want this career. This would be like someone who was flagged for medical because they have hearing loss saying they’re just going to reapply because they think they can ‘do better’ on the hearing test a second time around. Not a good idea.

Let me add

Bad idea

Plus I highly doubt that you’ll wait 2 years. Yes I know that it has happened in the past. But it appears that they are working hard to clear up the system of people who are tier 2.

Hang in there.

You could, but ultimately it would be found that you are Tier II and it will stop you right in your tracks.

I am totally green, just got out of college (ME). AT Basic Class Date Offered: July 24. When will I know my path? - Terminal or Enroute. I applied for FAA Engineering Services as well but I have not heard from them. The adventure begins....
