Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

all other hiring sources. the legal requirement to be within +- 10% for each pool

Wouldnt they have to select more people than they intend to hire to account for those who will fail during the medical, security, and other test on down the line?

Typically they will send out a TOL to the next people on the list once those people are disqualified but they will not give out more TOL expecting people to be DQ

So critique my thinking here folks. Full disclaimer, I know this has room for error/ variables:

4968 qualified candidates took the ATSA. Let’s assume 75% passed(I’d assume less actually did, but for the sake of the exercise we will go high). That’s 3726.
Hiring goal is 1431. Assuming there are no other outside bids(I know there are but don’t have even an approximate number of how many), you would need to be in the top 38%(1431/3726) of scoring to receive an offer.

What all am I not accounting for that would decrease that number, and by how much?

I really don't recall them sending more TOLs after people start failing clearances. I mean maybe it happens but not that I have seen.

I am just hoping we find out before the next OTS bid. I read somewhere that once a new one is posted anyone that was referred from a previous bid would just get not referred (on USAJobs) if they did not get a TOL. any truth to this?

How long do you think it would take to get certified Tower go back to the academy for TRACON and get certified for that? I would like to end up back in my home state where there is no En Route, so this is why I'm curious about TRACON.

How about just worry about getting a TOL first.

And good luck getting a facility that is in your home state. You will most likely go to where the FAA needs you. Just like the military. You’ll choose based off a list of facilities of where the FAA needs bodies the most at that particular time. If I were you, I’d be open to whatever you can get.

I am 100% open and completely understand the process but I also know there is a program for transferring. I'm the type of person that likes to know all my options and possibilities and how things work. For instance, if I do get tower I will pick (if possible) an up/down location no matter where that is in the country. This way I have more options if I wish to transfer later. I did not even consider this before asking questions. I know I will probably end up Enroute anyway. The upside is the pay, the downside is locations are more limited, but I'm already compiling my list of top choices for Enroute.

Dont worry about your list until you graduate. There still is a long way to go.

We have all seen people worry so much about their list they lose track of what they are actually at the academy to do (pass)

We are probably in the same boat. I see no harm in having an idea in your head of how you'd like everything to pan out, as long as you are aware of just how much is out of your hands. I'm the same way, I have a list of places I would love to be assigned, but realize that the FAA doesn't give two craps what I want. Best of luck to you

You’re not going to find out anything until a week before you eval at the academy. A plan is all good and fine, but what’s the use at this point? Take each step in the process, and apply effort into passing the academy. Part of this job is accepting you can literally end up anywhere.

You’re worried about Step 100 when you’ve been checked out, complaining about your spot on the break board and where you want to transfer to. There is nothing you can do to better your of where you will eventually end up.

You need to be focused on getting a TOL and passing so you can get AG pay first.

And for the record, en route is the way to go. I see tower people coming in with more seniority but have been making a lot less and even when they do checkout, I’ll still be making $20k more than them per year for the rest of our careers. That adds up after 20 years.

Enroute is the way to go if you dont mind living in one of the (insert number or center facilities here) locations. If you dont enjoy any of those locations Terminal is probably the route. Theres literally hundreds of terminal facilities. Plus plenty that make the same if not more money than enroute. Some people care more about location than pay and you cant blame em

Terminal is also generally a faster route to CPC.

Am I the only one freaked out about the MMPI and physical? I’m petrified of getting Tier 2’ed or failing the physical.

Yeah I don't really care about pay. Pay will be plenty any kind of way you slice it. Location is much more important for me.

The MMPI can be intimidating. Just follow the instructions and don’t be afraid of admitting your flaws. Physical, for me, was a simple and easy check mark. Just took absolutely forever to get it scheduled. But don’t sweat that stuff right now. You’ll just get yourself even more worked up.

Anyone know how strict they are regarding eyesight?

I've seen two "requirements". One with a specific minimum eyesight without prescription, the other saying it's all good if it's correctable (I'm obviously paraphrasing).

Can't see shit without my contacts...I've skimmed through some other threads, it seems like people have been able to get through even with bad eyesight. I'm wondering if they're generally lenient with this or if those guys just got lucky.
