Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Anyone know how strict they are regarding eyesight?

I've seen two "requirements". One with a specific minimum eyesight without prescription, the other saying it's all good if it's correctable (I'm obviously paraphrasing).

Can't see shit without my contacts...I've skimmed through some other threads, it seems like people have been able to get through even with bad eyesight. I'm wondering if they're generally lenient with this or if those guys just got lucky.

You just need to be correctable to 20/20.

Am I the only one freaked out about the MMPI and physical? I’m petrified of getting Tier 2’ed or failing the physical.

I'm right there with you except my concern is the background check. My background is perfectly fine except for my credit. I need to focus on paying off some minor debts and improving my credit score over the next couple of months.

I’m blind without my contacts. Corrected to 20/20 and all good. You should be fine.

Me too! I saw that someones also posted they had like 10k in collections and they didnt apparently care as long as a payment plan was arranged.

Does anyone know if they will notify you in some way if you DONT get a TOL? Or is it just one of things that if you don’t hear from them, you’re never gonna hear from them...

From what I have read within the forums here and on stuckmic; it seems that if you do not receive a TOL your USAjobs status will not update until just before the next bid. There is the possibility that a lot of people may fail the steps between receiving a TOL and getting a class date, which may cause them to send out more TOL's? I am not sure if this is correct information, but it is information that I have read on the forums.

There will be no notification once the new bid opens up your status gets changed to not referred you will know if you were not selected since everyone will be posting about TOL. This last bid there was really only 1 round of TOL that went out on the same day however in previous bids there have been waves of TOL.

It's so cute all you people who don't even have a TOL discussing location and tracks...

It will change to not hired.

Lol I don’t see why it bothers you so much for us to have “dream locations” that we would love to be assigned to.. It doesn’t mean that we think we have it made or that think we ultimately have much of a choice. The majority of our applications made it to the next round and we’re rightfully excited about that, regardless of how long the road is ahead.

Your dream should just be walking out of OKC with a job at this point. Everything else doesn't matter if that doesn't happen.

12/06/18 - Received an email from USAJobs stating there's been a change to the status of my application. Referred, Pool 2. Very excited and WAY more hopeful than I was immediately after taking the ATSA, but anxious about waiting for the TOLs.

It is. Me having a preference of location doesn’t mean I’ll be bummed if I don’t get that location, obviously all of this is way off in the future. I appreciate you trying to keep us grounded in reality though

The instructors at the academy say it perfectly, "you can live anywhere for five years"

Do you time, get checked out, then transfer to where you want to go. Remember we all signed a form saying we were willing to go anywhere where the FAA needed us.

It's probably okay here on a semi-anonymous internet forum, but I'd keep it under your hat that you're already planning on transferring. Your trainers at your first facility are gonna make your life a living hell if they think that you just wanna certify and get out.

Good tip. To clarify, I’m going to be happy anywhere, if I’m afforded that opportunity. I’ve got a wife and three small kids, so a transfer probably wouldn’t be in my personal plans. I was only saying that having location preferences doesn’t mean that we as new guys(hopefully) think we have it made.

I too happened to sign on to the site last week and noticed my status had changed to "referred." I wasn't really feeling all that confident after leaving the ATSA, but knowing I at least passed is a good feeling. This is the first time I've applied to the FAA, and will probably be the last I can ever apply for the position (I turn 31 in 2020). If it makes any of you feel better, it took me a year to get the last job and 3 years to get the job I have now from the time I took the test to the time I started the academy. The waiting game applies to all government agencies.

As for the MMPI, just answer the questions honestly. I've taken both the MMPI-2 (about 600 questions) and the new MMPI-2-RF (a little over 300 questions). I have no idea how the FAA does it but I had to sit in front of a psychologist every time who asked a few questions if any of my answers were conflicting. It's not really a huge deal at all.
