Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Thanks for the info. I guess I still might call to see exactly why it was rejected. If it was a mistake at least I'll know and if there is an OTS bid for 2019 I'll know what to look out for should I decide to reapply.

Just some advice, whenever you apply for jobs on USAjobs, before the bid closes out make a call to the HR number listed and ask them if they can check your submitted docs if you’re missing anything or if you’re good to go. That way you won’t get eliminated for just forgetting something.

That's a good suggestion. I'll let you guys know what they say when I call them.

So I got in contact with the HR representative who actually looked at my application and disqualified me. They said the reason they disqualified me was because of my work hours. My application shows that I have worked at job A from 2012 to the present at 20hrs a week. It also shows that I started job B in 2015 and still hold it presently working 30hrs a week. So I actually have many more years and weekly hours than what's the application requires but it's split between 2 jobs. The HR representative told me that the hours cannot be split between 2 jobs, but that you must hold one job at a minimum of 40hrs a week for at least 3 years.

Were you applying based solely on work experience, or did you have any degree/education as well?

idk why i put "No, but I have aviation related education from a non-CTI affiliated school.", when I should have just picked the answer you picked... :/.

Oh well, I'll have to wait and see what happens. Thanks for the response!
Did you answer "yes" to the question above that asked (yes or no) if you had any aviation-related education? And if so, did you specify how many credit hours of that education you had?

On the question above I put "No", then I put I have 0 aviation credits.

Damn, that's harsh. I guess you could argue for that interpretation based on the "progressively responsible" verbiage in the bid description but it's not clear at all, IMO. I wonder if that cut down a lot of people—I think a lot of 20-somethings in this day and age would have trouble demonstrating three continuous years anywhere.

Okay.
So do you think having 3 credit hours of an aviation meteorology class at a non-CTI school is enough to check the box "No, but I have aviation related education from a non-CTI affiliated school."? ...considering I will be able to say Yes to having some aviation-related education...

Maybe I dreamt this, but didn’t I read somewhere that 20 hours/week “counts” as “half” of full time? So wouldn’t 20 hours/week for 6 years count as 3 years of 40/week?

I would say you could qualify to say "No, but I have aviation related education from a non-CTI affiliated school." If they didn't consider 3 credits enough, then maybe they should specify that. As far as being able to say, "Yes" to having some aviation related education, I have no idea because again they don't specify whether they are talking about cti only or not.

Yeah, I think they said the non-cti classes just can't be ones that apply towards your degree requirements if you are not CTI (i.e. they must have to be taken as electives). I imagine you can say "Yes" about non-cti classes considering "I have aviation-related education from a non-CTI affiliated school" is an option.

Now that I see that in writing again (and review my own application in AVIATOR), it's possible that part-time work only counts toward your total if you go for the "combination of experience and education that equates to 3 years" option. I could see that being the case.

EDIT: But I'm a doofus because question 3 in the application is:
3. Have you had at least 3 years of progressively responsible full-time work experience (full time is defined as a 40 hour work week) that demonstrates the potential for learning and performing air traffic control work? NOTE: The progression of responsibility must be documented in detail in the work history information. Part-time work is prorated in crediting experience. For example, working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period will be credited with 6 months experience.
So it looks to me like @MagioX1 got screwed. Perhaps the "progressively responsible" bit wasn't documented correctly?

One thing I can think of is that maybe (I could be wrong...please correct me if I am) the job that @MagioX1 started in 2012 had a start date of sometime after July 2012. In this case, they would only have 5 years and ____ months of part-time work experience, equaling a little less than 3 years of full-time experience.

Very good point.

That’s a good point, but it also said progressively responsible is typical as you spend more time at the place of employment and learn more.

My start date was May of 2012. On top of this why is my experience from my second job starting in 2015 not counting for anything?
