Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

So looking at these projected facility lists, when it comes time to pick will the list only have facilities that are reserved for classes or are there other facilities based of the need of staffing. Also I've seen mention of only being allowed to pick certain level of facilities but I have seen people argue both sides. Is there any truth to being limited at facility level out of academy?

Bro. you're about 11 months too early worrying about facility locations. for all we know the FAA could change their method 4 times by the time it will matter to you. With that being said. All your questions can be answered if you use that search function

I totally get it. Just trying to grasp an understanding of the process now. If 3 months it changes then in will have 8 months to learn the new process. I'll browse the archives though.

The FAA will give you a list before you graduate you should have an idea of what’s on it maybe a week out from evals however many people graduate is what the true list is if you have 18 people in your class and only 10 make it the top 10 places are the choices and you pick in order of overall scores. The list changes a lot so don’t bother until right before evals.

And also if 10 people pass from your class then that doesn't mean you are going to have 10 unique options. They might very well be 5 lines to the same place.

Alright now that I’ve gotten a TOL I’m allowed to worry about things I couldn’t worry about before... my biggest concern right now is graduation. I have one semester left until I graduate, and the end of the spring semester is the first week in May I believe. Any chance I’ll get an Academy date before that? I wasn’t worried about it before Referred Status/TOLs went out, but they came out so quickly and caught a lot of us off guard, I’m convinced the trend will continue (which definitely isn’t a bad thing).
If I don’t graduate it’s not the absolute end of the world, I’m going to school for this job so this is amazing, I’d just prefer to have that degree under my belt, especially after giving it the last 4 years of my life and a ton of money. Any speculation is welcome, thanks guys!

Usually of you tell them your situation, they are willing to work with you. Don't bank on it but I have seen it happen.

I’ve heard that as well, but I don’t know if they’ll do it for a graduation. Like I said I don’t mind either way, just preference at this point!

You should be able to arrange your situation so that you can graduate before going to the Academy. They give you 90 days to submit all elements of the CIL, which includes things like background check, drug test, medical exam, and so on. Most people complete it much faster for obvious reasons, but if you just slow-walk the process I think you'd be very unlikely to get a date before May. Assuming that you don't get the CIL until late January, and you take most of the 3 months to complete all the requirements, then the absolute earliest they'd be able to call you with a class date is late April, and class dates tend to be issued at least 4-6 weeks in advance. And that's all assuming the best case - in all likelihood, medical will be backed up and will take at least a month to review your file anyway, which would make all this moot. And of course, you could receive the dreaded Tier II, in which case you'd be lucky to get to the academy before NEXT May.

So yeah, you can manage the situation so that you should be alright. The hardest part will be resisting the urge to get every requirement completed immediately, but if you slow-walk the process you should be fine.

Thank you!! It’ll definitely be hard for me to hold off on getting everything done immediately, but I’ll try to take my time as much as possible! Hopefully Tier II is a myth I’ll never see! Fingers crossed... I don’t want to wait THAT long

Personally, while I understand you want to graduate, I would never turn down a class date to do it. You can always finish that later.
No way I’m turning down a class date. Just wondering how possible going to the Academy before graduation is. Thanks!!

I answered above, putting it as simply as I could hopefully it helps.
This video is the best one I found on a quick search of what the different ATC facilities do.
The acting is kinda cringey though.. lol

Do y’all really say “un-root” when you’re saying EnRoute? This is not what I say in my head every time.
