Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

You people are making filling out paperwork a lot more difficult than it should be.

That’s due to the lack of them not reading and following instructions. OKC is going to be really tough for some people.

Thanks for the input guys. Lucky for me, my wife and kid can stay at my parents if needed. I guess I'm already counting on graduating considering I'm the type of person to just not accept failure, but then again this is a total career change for me. I'm former military, so the drive to succeed without failure is still in me.
I am taking a rough $15k cut in yearly pay for the first year. Which sucks but hopefully the cost of living at my first assignment will be much lower than my current city of Nashville.

No problem bro. I’m taking a whopping 40k decrease in my yearly pay. But this is my dream job so I’m not going to let money get in the way. And most defiantly think if any possible outcome that will help your situation the best way possible.

I also have a mentality of failure is not a option, but there’s always that other outcome. You have to always have a back up plan no matter what ATC or not.

What do you mean... YOU PEOPLE???

Also, it’s called “practice” because as a government employee it is my damn DUTY to make paperwork a lot more difficult than it should be.

The reason I asked is because my wife and I (have a 3 year old son) are debating on whether we should all go to Oklahoma while I'm at the academy, or if she should stay home with my son and start the process of selling my home, getting rid of stuff, etc. Plus I honestly want to he 100% focused the whole time at the academy, I hear there's a bit of studying to do on your own.
I am opposite of most on here on this opinion, but I sold my house before I went to OKC and my wife and kid stayed behind visiting her family and my family. We were of the mindset that if I passed (and I did) it would be easier for us to pick up and move, and if I didn't pass we'd have some money for a down payment for another house.

I have the luxury of making a good profit selling my home, so worst case scenario, I come back to my home town and buy a smaller home outside of town.
This CIL can't come soon enough.

Yep everybody's situation is different but for the most part if you can make a profit and not burn bridges from you last job I'd sell.

FWIW, a friend of mine who is ATC said that when he went through 3 years ago, he took his family with him to OKC and stayed at IB, instead of selling his house he rented it out on AirBnb for a majority of his training time and made a ton of extra to make up for the salary loss at first, before eventually selling it altogether. Not everyone may have that flexibility but it is an option.

That’s actually a good idea.

We didn't live in an area that would've made money through AirBnb. We weren't hurting for the money and my wife was out of town which would've meant hiring a cleaner as well. Each situation but I went with the option that would allowed me to concentrate fully on passing the academy.
