My old supe was RAPCON only and went to an up/down got certed in the tower THEN went to OKC for RTF same with an old coworker. It seems to be how they do things.

I concur, my friend went to an all tracon facility and he had approach + enroute ticket and still got sent to OKC seems odd.

Friend of mine is ex AF, radar only. Sent to FAA level 9 up/down. Tower training done at facility although he had no previous tower experience. He’ll be going to the academy for radar.
Also, I was radar only in the AF and sent to a level 12 TRACON. No TSEW, RTF, TETRA, or academy period. Meanwhile, some CPC-ITs were to sent to the academy before training on the floor. ??♂️

Did some research and from what I’ve read off of other forums it’s up to the ATM if they wanna send you to OKC or train you in house? So I guess this will vary from facility to facility.

Ran into this with one of my friends. He had no radar exp, and they weren't going to send him to RTF. There's some wording in the training OI that was being "interpreted" to mean being hired on an previous exp bid meant you had the exp to not go to OKC. I helped him fight it, and he ended up going to RTF.
I think not going puts someone at a huge disadvantage, both in learning the job and in the event of a washout.

Friend of mine got the same list as the level 4-7s list on here + ABQ, CVG, ICT, MKE, ZSU, and ZUA.
Wonder how they decide the slight differences in lists, because another friend had the same experience and his list was just the 4-7s..

Basically, if you’re given an opportunity to go to the academy for additional training, go! Fortunately I certified, but I saw over 20 people wash out. At the end of the day you don’t want to question if going to OKC would’ve made a difference.
They shake a magic 8ball and it randomizes who gets additional facilities on their list. That’s my guess. Trying to make sense of the govt will lead to greater confusion and more questions.

if they still do it the same, you get notified of your facility then choose a date. After all that they prioritize who is showing up first to send out FOL. I knew where I was going and when but had to keep waiting to turn in a notice until I finally got my FOL

They would probably laugh at you. They have no pull at all in the process. Hell my ATM barely knew when we were getting people until they almost showed up
