FAA And PASS Forge New Contract

With the ipad kid generation coming up this doesn’t surprise me. No work ethic.
Bingo, to many night shifts or a little OT here and there and they get pissy. I don’t have a positive outlook for the future of ATC before I retire in 8 years.

I love the “higher pay attracts better candidates” argument. You still need a 70 to pass the academy. I’m more concerned with how some of these people are getting medicals.
We should be trying to attract potential candidates that would normally go engineering route or even doctor lawyer route. With our current pay and work life balance why would anyone interested in engineering or medicine or science/math based professions even apply? Pay absolutely matter for potential applicants. We’re gonna keep getting those McDonald’s applicants if things don’t improve soon.

Hey Kamala Harris worked at a McDonald’s what are you saying 😂

Truth be told sometimes when I go into Starbucks and it’s busy I actually think they work harder than me. I’m Chillen most the time
Uhhh yeah. I was a waitress before and I worked way waaay harder and it was more stressful. I worked my ass off back then and now I sit on it all day lol. It makes me thankful of the pay & benefits we get but we still need improvements.

You ain’t lyin’ mama! I’ve worked grunt labor jobs, ag and construction. Physically way harder. And I know you know, but you’re getting paid for what you Know, not what you routinely Do. (And I know, I know, the $ is not enough before everybody jumps on my a**)

Not a single person should care what I do in my time off or my breaks. NATCA national should be spinning the “it’s what you KNOW AND what you DO” as ATCs into pay improvement campaigns to help us secure more money and better QOL improvements. Government employment pay is restricted, I get it. But at some point this career needs to take off again and out pace other careers with a less shitty schedule, or you’re gonna continue to get shit applicants and shit controlling. And soon automation will take over and everyone is SOL.

Even with automation a few high level Thom, Dick and Harry’s will keep their careers and “oversee” the operations, while most of the dedicated 2152s working the boards will be up shit creek without a paddle.

I've never worked at a Z, but I don't know how you would automate the TRACONs and Towers to fully replace us within the next couple of decades.

As long as there are human pilots flying I think you will have human controllers. It could change if everything was automated, but I don't think we are any where close to that. It's not like the port workers, since they are in the news, where there's already fully automated ports around the world and they are against automation without agreement.

How many controllers are at Zs? These people would be losing their jobs if automation came to fruition.

TRACONS/Towers might have to be human based until the cameras and data get adjusted. 6000 and airborne would be more efficient if done from an algorithm rather than a human controller.

Yeah it will be the Zs first so half the FAA, 5K to 6K controllers when it does happen. I have no doubt it will happen one day but who knows how soon or far away that is.
