So if we’ve already taken leave and they have coded it normally what do we do?
Nothing. But the FAA will come out with their own version that says the same thing. And until then, nothing has changed. What am I missing? It sounds pretty cut and dry to me.

You guys are mixing up past/present/future
Past-all leave was coded as furlough-there was no leave
Present-You can take either leave or furlough (and the furlough is guaranteed pay)
Future-Essential persons are able to use paid leave if furlough is ever not back paid-ie lack of appropriations or something turns where furlough isn't paid you have the choice to risk it. (although the bill may always pay federal employees furloughed from now on, not sure)
...We expect most essential employees to opt for furlough... CUT AND DRY FROM OPM
So are we being charged leave that we take or not, I'm confused
Lol sooo if you dont want to be charged they put you on furlough and you will be back paid without being leave charged???Only if you want it to be charged. Can’t make this shit up.

Even though it said no leave will be used there are plenty of facilities mine included where sups were not coding leave as furlough. I personally had leave during the first week of the shutdown that was coded as furlough, but other leave that was coded as AL or SL.
Yeah this is what I’m talking about. All our leave has been coded as annual or sick so far.Even though it said no leave will be used there are plenty of facilities mine included where sups were not coding leave as furlough. Mine was also approved leave before the shutdown as well. At first everyday our sups were going in and changing LV to furlough, then the Telecon about tracking SL happened so now things are being coded as AL or SL. As off now I have 3 days showing as furlough 1 as AL and 1 as SL. Our cool sup (shout out to TCassie) told us they were instructed to start coding LV as AL or SL and that NATCA and the FAA would hash it out later.
So what's stopping me from taking furlough leave and finding a temporary job that actually pays instead of IOU's
You can't just ask to be furloughed. If you can get approved leave then you can request that it be changed to furlough. If you plan on just banging in sick every day you will be held to the CBA and requested to produce a sick note.So what's stopping me from taking furlough leave and finding a temporary job that actually pays instead of IOU's
