My parents did a 2 week Mediterranean cruise last year. I think they went: Barcelona, Monaco, Pisa, Rome, Naples, Palermo, Venice, Dubrovnik, Santorini, and Mikonos. Then followed it up with a week in Paris, the beaches of Normandy, and Amsterdam. All of it booked through the cruise company. Looked dope as hell.

I see the appeal of both. Sometimes you just want to go full-glutton, and a cruise to nowhere or Mexico or wherever with all you can eat and drink and sleep sounds pretty epic in that regard. Sometimes you can go full adventure with it too like an Alaskan one or the ones over in Europe and those seem pretty bomb as well. While I would like control over an itinerary, it seems real easy to pay for all of it in one chunk and just be content with what you get.

F*ck now I really want to travel. Didn't get to have our honeymoon this summer after the wedding. 2020 sucks.

That's a lot of stops for a 2 week cruise. They must have felt rushed at every stop because there is so much to see and you don't have much time. It's cool and all if you just care about seeing places and saying you been there. Otherwise, imagine just chillin on a boat in the Mediterranean off the coast of Santorini or Mykonos? Swimming in the super clear waters of the Mediterranean? Maybe doing some cliff jumping? Now that's a vacation.

Ya if I ever hit the lottery or something and get fuck you money thats just gonna be my life. Split time between that and some type of alpine hunting/ski lodge

I think the cruise was 17 days in length, I know it was at least a couple days over 2 weeks and less than 3; Barcelona was the starting point and Pisa was just a couple hour stop to see the tower. I think they had at least 2 days in the other places which isn't too bad. I'd think of it like a sampler platter to kind of get the idea of where you want to go back to and explore more.

I did Glasgow, London, and Paris in a week. 1 day was all I needed to determine I don't need to bother with London again and I spent another day there; 2 days in Paris made me realize I only need maybe 4 more days in Paris at some point to see what I want to see and check it off my list fully. 3 days in Glasgow... I could f*cking live there permanently.

My aunt is a travel writer made a career of taking cool vacations, her semi retirement gig is cruise reviews. According to her if you are going to do a cruise, ya the Europe ones are the way to go if you still want to see places besides the onboard stuff. Either that or some of the Alaska ones.
 
Going on Disney cruises as a child were lit. Some great memories doing that. Haven’t been on a cruise since spring break Senior year of college and it was a good time drinking with my pals but I could travel and do that anywhere. I’m not really interested in going on another any time soon. My fiancée also hates them so our poor future kiddies might not ever go on one ?
 
AB19 I was just looking at the calendar and realized the paycheck coming 12/29 is the one for PP 26-2020 which ends on 12/19, so even if the government does shut down, worst-case we'll get nine out of ten days' worth of pay on that paycheck—PP 01-2021 doesn't start until 12/20. I certainly hope 90% of your paycheck is enough to cover TSP contributions, etc, so it looks like we're out of the woods on that.

This is assuming payroll is able to process the paycheck properly, which is what people say on reddit. We should get an LES and direct deposit as normal and on time for all days worked up through 12/18 because the government actually has funding for those days. We won't get paid for 12/19 or later until the shutdown ends. That's what I've seen people say.
 
Another continuing resolution is possible as well that would cover us for another week. The final bill does not seem like it will take another 9 days to finalize but probably longer than Friday so :-/
 
Question: So if the government doesn’t come up with something by tonight at midnight the academy on zoom would shut down until it gets resolved? Am I understanding that correctly?

Last time they did weird things when they paid us before and after the pandemic. Like getting straight time with no. Premiums. Then getting our premiums later

Times are rough but the paycheck is greater than 750 so I’ll be good, thanks for the heads up though, appreciate it
