I have a coworker who went the OS route to get where he wanted to be and then requested to come back to controlling. I believe there has to be a staffing shortage to the facility you are going to but it is possible. Being an OS just wasn't for him so even in his 50's, he is the lowest in seniority. But it's better to have tuesday wednesday off than be stuck across the country. Most people who are looking at moving are still early on in their career. So if you lose a couple years of seniority, it's prolly worth it. Plus, there is a proposed amendment going up to vote at the Convention in June where one's seniority would not be wiped out if they went the OS route, but would be total controlling time. I think it's fair, and if you're thinking about this route, make sure you talk to your rep about it since they will be voting on it soon.
