Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-21-ALLSRCE-73599

You guys want to hear unfair? I went to White Castle on my third break today to get some lunch. The person who ordered AFTER me got their food BEFORE me. What gives?! Do these people not understand my life and thousands of other lives are in jeopardy because I didn't get my food when I should've?!

Seriously guys, be patient, crying and having a pity party does nothing. There are people from the 2018 bid just now getting classes. Relax.
You have a White Castle by your facility?? I’m filing a grievance.

People say to be patient, but it's hard not to get a little bothered when others are already a few steps ahead, and your HR rep hasn't done jack yet.

I sound salty af, but I would be kissing CG's feet rn because they're so communicative with their applicants. Btw, I'm using "their" because I dunno CG's name or pronouns.
I’m going to offer you a bit of perspective here. I initially took the AT-SA in 2020 and received and “not referred” status around the time everyone started receiving their TOLs. The verbiage of the notification seemed to indicate that I hadn’t taken the AT-SA at all. After a few hours of back and forth calls with low-level lackeys trying their best to get off the phone as quickly as possible, I was finally able to get in touch with someone who gave enough of a shit to tell me that the testing vendor lost my test results.

Despite being given assurance that I’d have another opportunity to test, this and the lack of definite timeline for a retest took the wind right out of my sails. While I thought I did well on my first go, who knows what I might have scored, and whether or not that would’ve cleared quite as efficiently as I managed to recently. The way I see it now, things worked out exactly as I needed them to.

You should prepare yourself for arbitrarily long wait times and unresponsive contacts. As long as you do your part, you’ll have a crack at it. It’s not a race. Furthermore, your HR contact will likely not be who you spend the majority of your preemployment waiting to hear back from.

Good luck!

If you thought the wait to get a CIL was bad, just wait until you get to a facility and have to wait to start training on the floor...

Definitely. When I showed up to my facility, it was smack in the middle of the holidays and not a single soul came to talk to me for a week and a half. And it didnt even matter because training is so slow lolol. I asked if I was behind and they just said "Oh, not one bit."

I have never seen people be so upset about other people being anxious and wanting to know whats going on lmao. The contradiction in "shuttup and wait youre slowing the process down" from the same people saying "the process is long and pain staking no need to worry about being quick". Just let people do their own thing theres no reason to belittle someone for being worried ?. Yall be so quick to hop down someones throat for being concerned its so toxic.

I think it’s more of the fact that it literally says in the TOL to send them a message after 14 days if you don’t get a confirmation email, but you get a bunch of people asking if they should send them another email before 14 days…

I haven’t received a confirmation email either, but it’s crazy to me that people are already wanting to send a follow-up email. Reading and following the directions isn’t that difficult.

Pretty sure nobody gives a shit about “banter,” or people complaining, or what anyone else does/thinks/feels. All that’s happening here is people who have been through the process before, who have worked this job for several years, and who are familiar with how the FAA operates are simply trying to provide some insight to those who clearly have none. There are people who are displaying a great deal of impatience, worry, and frustration over things that in the grand scheme of a career with the FAA, are literally nothing. There’s no reason to panic because you haven’t received a confirmation to your confirmation of your TOL within a few days. Hell there was a guy who started a whole new thread the other day with an all caps “URGENT” in the title because he was worried a bad credit score was going to mess with the background investigation he hadn’t even started yet. People can do/say/feel whatever they want, but the people who have been there and done that are simply trying to say, you may want to adjust your expectations when coming into this job.

I agree with you. Not asking questions is even more stupid. I’ve been in the military and not asking questions was a matter of survival; were you going to survive or were you going to be too scared to ask a question? I’ve been too close to death to be scared of what one persons opinion of me is. They can think of me what they want. I bet I’ve been working for the government longer than they have been with the faa. I don’t sit around and criticize how these people are. The government doesn’t even follow their own rules.. let me be the first one to tell you…

"Can't handle banter", complains about banter ?
In government work, I’ve seen people file complaints for much less. It seems petty but some have and may even classify that as a hostile work environment.

Roll your eyes maybe, but some of those supervisors and employees actually were sent home with a pink slip. Todays environment is a lot different when I start working for the government 14 years ago.

Maybe your department/agency is different, but you’re going to be pretty shocked by the conversations and comments that occur on control room floors if you think complaining about banter can constitute a “hostile work environment.”

I beauty of it is I don’t have to think if I know what a hostile working environment is. I have lived it and been in deployed before. What happens on a control room floor has no shock or awe value to me as I have been through much worse in combat.

I was simply speaking on others that are non military and haven’t developed that thickened skin yet.

Here’s the thing, you can either be helpful or just be a put down.. that’s all it is.

Very well put.

We're all here to talk and get some insight and perspective on this career and the process. I was feeling pretty over-my-head before I started following this thread and realized we're all in the boat. If this isn't the place to talk about the job and the process someone feel free to point me in the right direction.
Edit for wording
