NATCA leadership on those leaving the union

Do you want management telling everyone how to work and what to wear or do you want shitbag showing up 30 minutes late in their pajamas and rolling back the timeclock before their 1.5hr long break
Quite the strawman but nice try.

So what I'm getting out of this is that it's basically a cult. I'll join during training then once (or if) I make CPC I'll peace out.
Nah. Not at all. Task yourself with getting involved and see for yourself, then decide. Once I did, I realized how eager local mgmt was to break the contract at their whim. A strong local makes a huge difference. Your leave and schedule are locally negotiated every year so it behooves you to have people in there negotiating who know the contract to the letter.

If you are involved or have at least made an honest, prolonged attempt you 100% have the right to bitch because at that point it's just expressing the ways you think things could be better. Most, however, just relegate themselves to scrolling on their phones for four hours a day every year and get mad when things don't 100% go their way.

Just curious what your reservations are about not joining to begin with. Until you actually show up to the facility, you won’t really have an idea of what you are dealing with.
The reservations come from the last fed agency I was at. In training the union rep did nothing but fear monger to get us to join. Never once needed them so to me it was also a waste of money. I am aware that if I make a mistake there would be consequences and maybe the union could protect me or maybe not. If the union sheep attack me for my personal opinions, then so be it. It only builds my case to stay far away from them.

100% your decision, so you do you… but like others have said, I think it is beneficial to join when you first get to your facility to at least see it for yourself. I will say that there’s a lot management can and will do to violate the contract in their favor since they have some incentives to do so, and having some support in dealing with that helps. Not only that, but there’s a lot of scenarios that can pop up in training where you may need a little bit of backup with handling. Does the union have an obligation to protect your rights regardless? Yes. Will they go out of the way to help a non-member? Maybe, maybe not. Up to you and whatever game you choose to play.

And not leaving. I get mad at some of the stuff but the best thing you can do is get involved and get a seat at the table. Luckily a powerful union is filing a federal lawsuit Think you were exposed to COVID at work? There’s a lawsuit for that | Federal News Network
So why hasn’t NATCA so much as mentioned this lawsuit if it goes back two years now

As I said earlier, I will join for now. Who knows, maybe I will end up staying in it for the long run. I appreciate your words. Don't understand why others get so defensive and hostile when it comes to union talk.

if management is ever violating the contract you should speak up say something. Even if it is a non union member. The contract is binding member or non member. Non member could always become well versed with contract and that would help too. I agree natca probably won’t help much or go out of their way to help

You’re pretty much guaranteed to get shit on if you talk about anything besides passing the academy. It triggers people to talk about things at your potential facility that you haven’t been assigned yet.

I don’t care but food for thought

Obviously lol. I know better than to bring up touchy subjects while at work. It's a good way to make unnecessary enemies. All I'm focused on is busting my ass to pass the academy.

NATCA finally updated the portal where you can view union membership by facility. Looks like a lot of big hits, A80 is 67%, most of the big facilities are in the upper 80’s when it used to be all over 90%. Only places I seen which were 100% are smaller facilities and the scum contract towers they will talk up now to try to boost up the perception lol.

They signed up so many contract towers. Are those guys even paying dues lol

Contact tower guys pay one hour a pay period in dues, or 1.25%. So NATCA makes no money on them, you never see national NATCA leaders come out of contract towers and I don’t think they know what the PAC is.

So NATCA could not give less of a shit about them but will now promote their numbers to help offset the losses of the high paying dues guys from the high level facilities.

Did you just view the facilities individually or is there a place that see national numbers?
