NATCA leadership on those leaving the union

I'm currently in the Academy and as of now I have no intentions of joining the union. Is this going to hinder any part of my career as an ATC?
This would be mega dumb. If you mess up in training at all you need the union to help you. If you go to a training review board then what? Just quit after/if you certify.

Expect them to follow their legal and contractual obligations?
Local reps arguing with local managers is still alive and well ?

I just wouldn’t want to be in a trb with the rep not trying hard. Plus it’s more dramatic to quit the union

Nothing illegal about helping management get their ducks in a row for a TRB.
There is, actually.

An exclusive representative is responsible for representing the interests of all employees in the unit it represents without discrimination and without regard to labor organization membership.
Don’t be such a mickhead.

Join while you are a trainee. It’s more of a thing if anything comes up in your training not necessarily people you work with. I’m at a center but I’m sure most of my trainers didn’t know if I was in the union or not and frankly don’t think they would care. Just get out after you cpc. And don’t worry about NCEPT if you want to err. Managers make the ranking lists. Call them and speak to them personally. Make yourself known. They’re not in the union. They don’t give a shit.

Nah there isn't.
The reps job at a TRB isn't to save your job. It's to protect due process. You can give management a rope, but whether or not you let them hang themselves is always a choice.

Edit for clarification:

You can set management up for a grievance. Or you can resolve the issue before there is a grievance to be had. Both of these options involve doing your job as a Rep. But if you got a TRB, the former is more advantageous to the developmental.

So what I'm getting out of this is that it's basically a cult. I'll join during training then once (or if) I make CPC I'll peace out.
You have to understand that training isn’t perfect or fair. If you have a bad experience you are going to want all the help you can get

Yeah. What worker groups need unions? Your employers will always treat you better without negotiated rights and benefits. ? Don't bother looking into the history of unions either. Propaganda! /s

I do not endorse and don’t think it would be helpful to not join while training or to immediately quiet after CPC. What until you get screwed over and then quit, it probably won’t take long.

On a related note, 2022 will have the last big batch of COVID trainees who had their training delayed in some cases over a year and were “screwed”. So I think NATCA will have one more year of major defections next January as a decent amount of those people will jump ship.

Plus several dozen others who got jobbed by NCEPT for yet another year or people who get tired of people like Mick. And the people who will reject the major push by NATCA to campaign for left wing candidates this Fall.

LOL! This post is like one of those "following directions" trick tests where ur supposed to read everything first , and the last question says you are finished do not answer any questions. You will make a good NATCA sheep so join away so they can tell you what to think without you having to worry about anything. Yeezys are so much more comfortable than cement shoes anyway!

TLDR = ya u prob gonna wash out

oh boy dunk GIF

Do you want management telling everyone how to work and what to wear or do you want shitbag showing up 30 minutes late in their pajamas and rolling back the timeclock before their 1.5hr long break

75% of us shitting on NATCA are members.
And not leaving. I get mad at some of the stuff but the best thing you can do is get involved and get a seat at the table. Luckily a powerful union is filing a federal lawsuit Think you were exposed to COVID at work? There’s a lawsuit for that | Federal News Network

Some of you haven’t had to deal with toxic management and it shows. I’m not gurgling the gravy for the national leadership in any way, but a strong local union with good leadership makes a wonder of a difference when you’ve got management trying to flex on the workforce. We would be a lot more miserable day-to-day if they got their way over here and we didn’t have a good local. For what that has saved me in free time alone is worth sticking around to show support for the local at least.
