MMPI-2 Tier 2 Process

It would be better to just sort the perfect people into the school and have the instructors deicide if you're crazy or not. A 567 Question test taken on a computer in a dark room is a lot less telling then actually interacting with someone. If the MMPI-2 calls someone crazy for choosing the demon responses and the teenage angst ones, then sure save time and remove them from the process. But someone scoring to highly should just be moved on into the school
Not everyone in tier 2 goes to the schoolhouse. A lot of us have prior experience and still “fail”.

anyone else prior military in the tier 2 process and having issues getting military records delivered? i've submitted 4 requests for my records to naval personnel command and they've confirmed they were sent. yet the FAA hasn't received them. going on a year waiting for my records to be received...
I had this exact problem. I ended up having to go into my current base and go directly to medical and tell them exactly what I needed. They burned the files onto a CD disc for me to send to the FAA. Oh, but they were still wrong. If you are close to a base, and still have your ID and it isn't expired, I'd highly recommend going into a base and directly to the medical squadron to try and alleviate any headaches. Mine when I returned the request form that the FAA sent, was sent to the military and they also claimed they mailed them, but the FAA claimed they never received them, twice. Convenient.

Hello all, apparently I’ve been tier 2’d, and just like everybody else I have no idea why. Been controlling for years but guess my MMPI results were not satisfactory. I’ve read most of the post here, sounds like minimum one year wait?

I’m active duty USAF and start terminal in a few months, probably going to contract for awhile or work DOD until this whole issue gets straightened. TIA.
I would say that the wait time is 24-36 months for a lot of folks I got out and got a contract gig and found out I was T2d and decided to grab a cushy DoD slot. The FAA honestly doesn’t really care much about us and the process is slow because of that lack of care. So buckle up and get ready to wait.

Okay sounds good, thanks for the reply!

Has anyone been waiting a while but has finished their Psy appointment? I had mine back in Feb and still waiting.
Ya, still waiting.
I thought most say 3 month on average after appt, but looks like that might not be happening as i'm approaching 3 months as well. Have you tried reaching out yet and if so who is the contact at that point? I been super patient, but starting to wonder at this point lol

Yeah this is why I feel like they just aren't doing anything.

Yeah mine was end of feb I tried reaching out and was told to be patient and there’s nothing I can do in the mean time. I even tried to call my regional flight surgeon and I got directed back to SM so I’m not trying that again lol

This process has been a long ride for sure.
Still waiting to hear back and e-mailed a couple weeks ago for yet again another update and they said that they're getting someone else now to take a look as it's been several months since hearing last.

I have applied in 2018 and have been Tier 2'd since 2020.
Got DQ'd after a psych eval with a psych I felt extremely uncomfortable with so I appealed and paid out of pocket for a 2nd evaluation which went much better.

And here we are halfway through 2022!

Just got the email that I have cleared Tier-2!

The psychiatrist told me that my original MMPI was invalid because I didn't seem to answer the questions honestly. He said having some bad traits will not disqualify you, they are looking for "red flag" answers and will need to evaluate you if you answer those as true. I had one red flag question that I answered true on. It was "Sometimes I know that people can tell exactly what I am thinking". I answered it as true because my wife usually knows exactly where I want to eat. I explained this to him and he said that wasn't a problem. I retook the MMPI-2 plus 3 other personality tests, over 1,100 questions in total. I feel like I answered the questions pretty similarly to how I answered them on the original test. I even answered my red flag question with the exact same answer. Lol

In the Reddit AMA someone asked about speeding up the Tier 2 process and the FAA replied saying they are hiring another Psychologist to help with it. So in a year when this new person is hired and trained, we may start to see some good progress!

Did anyone or has anyone received an email about a local provider accepting their case and that the process is expected to take 45 days? Does this mean I'm moving forward or is this part of the infinity loop?

I did not receive that, but I'd love to. Sounds to me like a step forward.

This is what I received today.

Based on your screening MMPI-2, it has been determined that a second level or “Tier 2” evaluation will be required for you. A local Tier 2 provider will be selected and contacted to confirm they will accept your case. The necessary paperwork will be generated upon referral acceptance. Further instructions will be provided once these steps have been completed. We expect this process to take up to 45 calendar days.

Please confirm your residence location as XXXXXX, XX

The date on your CIL and the date you completed the screening MMPI-2 are not factors determining your Tier 2 processing status.

We are aware of the constantly evolving guidance surrounding COVID-19. At this time, we will continue to coordinate tier 2 evaluations. You should not expect your appointment to be scheduled within the next 60-90 days. Your tier 2 provider may schedule your appointment, but will reschedule for a later date based on local conditions and guidance being given by local and state authorities. Providers have also been advised to reschedule appointments for applicants who are exhibiting symptoms. Please do not show up for your appointment if you or a member of your household are not feeling well, contact the provider and reschedule for a later date.

Guidance is changing daily for many locales and we will defer to the local and state authorities.

Failure to follow these instructions or respond to this email within 7 days will result in your case being referred back to your human resources specialist as non-responsive.

Thank you.
