Former Jobs

Airport Operations at Huntsville International Airport in Alabama. It was kind of awkward naming the nearest FAA facility to take the MMPI because my office is right across the taxiway from the terminal facility.
 
I’ve always wondered WHY/HOW people got into air traffic, what made them go from one job then want to be a controller? Because whenever I would tell someone I’m an air traffic controller they spout off the cliches, “isn’t it stressful?” “...high suicide rates..” “alcoholism” and blah blah blah..

I joined the AF for air traffic not really knowing what it was other than I would be talking to planes and it being better than working at Walmart or a call center.
 
Bus driver here. I was working on my private pilot cert when the 2015 bid came out. didn't get through BQ but tried again, successfully, in 2016. headed to the academy in a couple weeks.

I’ve got a friend that dispatches for SWA. I don’t know where you are, but after hearing about what its like for him, I don’t think I could/would leave for atc.
 
Been an outside salesman for 5 years. Everything from pest to (currently) home security. I’m great at it but, I hate it and this is my dream job. Following in dads footsteps. Need me a class date like yesterday...

It’s been a while since he told me, but from what I remember: start in the $60’s, 10 year scale to around $120 I believe. That’s just your base pay. They get extra pay for different things each month like having your dispatch cert. Flight benefits. The schedule was like 6 on, 2 off, 6 on, 6 off. That was kind of weird but seemed like it would be pretty nice. Don’t remember if there is a pension or not, but would guess not. Plenty of OT if you wanted it. Never got a chance to tour their ops center, but he sent me a picture and it looked really nice and modern as well.

Now that sounds like a sweet gig! I probably wouldn't leave it either. That's one thing I wish we had. Flight benefits. As great as FAMing may be, it's not the same lol.
