Government Shutdown - March Edition

I had a thought and a its just fleeting...but I've said the global elite reptilians won't give us a shutdown again.

I think they may try and force a shutdown to cripple the government once and for all. A long shutdown, the best, the longest.

Also big discussion on reddit about staying past 56. We need to hard oppose this, no mention of social security supplement that will be lost if this happens
I can see them make a push to increase age 56 retirement. After 911 the pilots/ALPA pushed it from 60 (based on safety ??) to 65. Common opinion was that they pushed it back so pilots could make up lost salary/pension from 911 massive pay cuts. Point being-it’s not really based on cognitive, mental/physical abilities when an agenda needs to be pushed

I don’t think many people want to stay past 56 or even til 56. I’ve talked to some people who retired at 53 (were eligible at 50) and they wished they retired earlier. The little extra money isn’t worth it. I hope no one takes the offer to stay past 56 for a measly 1-2% bonus (that’s what I think it will be).

It’s interesting that pilots have a higher mandatory retirement age than us and we also get paid less. We really need to close the gap between pilot and ATC pay. Imagine how many top tier candidates would apply if they found out they could be making 300-400k while being on break for 3ish hours a days. Something needs to happen!!

The mandatory retirement ages are literally the FAA acknowledging that controllers have a more stressful job and/or their mental acuity is more important than pilots. But senior airline pilots are making upwards of half million a year (occasionally more) and controllers at level 12’s are making ~$150-200K. Now I do believe pilots should be making a bit more than us considering how much their training costs, and the fact that their job is inherently riskier than ours, but the gap should be nowhere near as extreme as it is. They’re making hotel owner salaries and we’re the bellboys (minus the tips) and people are sick of it.

There's guys at Delta bringing home $400k+, while working less than 10 days a month. Pilot v ATC isnt even close anymore, theres literally no reason to chose ATC if youre interested in both careers at the moment.

Just gonna have to see if Duffy is willing to close that gap. It would be beyond shocking for a Republican admin to do it, but who knows? Alot of the comments they're making seem to show they're aware this isn't a competitive job posting right now in 2025. What Gen Z kid is gonna say yeah, send me to OKC for 3 months, and then send me to literally anywhere from Guam to San Juan on 2 days notice, to make around 100k a year and most likely be stuck at that initial posting for a decade. All while working one of the worst schedules of any of your friends or family, and most likely working 6 days a week on top of it. You want the best and brightest, you gotta pay up for it.

Why NATCA cant get the above message into the public sphere....Ill never understand. CNN Tee'd that up for Nick.

Your sentiment is correct. However, there are many pilots at Delta clearing a million a year. Top of left seat band before ot and differential is 600k iirc from last time the contract negotiation was posted. Oh, yeah, and dispatchers are making more than ATC at many locations.

We saw what the public’s opinion was recently and that is they do not want to be afraid to fly. The public would certainly react favorably to an increase in pay and benefits to attract more geniuses into this career.

The public would not be happy if they cut our pay and benefits and the quality of applicants wasn’t upto genius pay level

It's really.... really.... reallllllyyyyy confusing to me as to whether these people understand the term "Meritocracy".
For one, they aren't grasping that DEI doesn't mean we certify people based on their diversity.
They also say they want merit based hiring--- "they" being the people hired completely irrespective of their merit and completely related to loyalty or being related to Trump himself.
But, if they do increase our pay drastically to attract the best of the best of the best, sir! - Then maybe I'm still not giving then enough credit.

I don't think 600K would be unreasonable for an absolute cap... on the basis of said cap would be for a GM/DM in VHCOL. Maybe something like 500K for a capped out controller at a top level VHCOL facility.

We want people who are bright and motivated and would be FAANG material.

Not losers who are plucked from the freezer in the back of the McDonalds. Like me.

Making more than the president might be a little big of an ask. Which is why we should support any pay raises for the president and congress. Makes it easier for people below them to fill the new space

On one hand, for the sheer optice of it, sure. On the other hand, none of them need the raise- they've got other sources of income. They would've given themselves a raise awhile back otherwise.

It’s not about what they deserve. It’s about that to have regular people make more then leaders need to make more too or else it just falls apart. Also maybe you’d get better applicants to congress if they paid better

Hell forget the burnout. I can see the agency getting rid of age 56 retirement altogether just so they can take our 1.7% good time away. Some would say that would never happen, but I can’t be so sure with how shitty it seems they want to make this job.
